The Sportsman’s World: Back to Fulton

We packed up and headed back to Fulton on May 7, leaving behind our grandson Beckett and Washington State, which is in full bloom right now.  

Rhododendrons in white, pink, lavender and reds are everywhere, with clouds of brilliant azaleas interspersed. Pink and white dogwood, lilacs, and bushes and trees I can’t identify are all in bright array. 

Wildflowers and cultivated varieties are everywhere. It makes driving an absolute visual joy.  Continue reading

Fulton softball continues to win

The Fulton varsity softball team went 2-1 in its last three games and now has an overall record of 4-1.

On April 24, the Lady Raiders won a fireworks-filled game against Christian Brothers Academy, 22-21. Fulton knocked off Syracuse West 4-2 on April 25. The Jamesville-DeWitt Lady Red Rams were the only loss, topping the Lady Raiders 6-0 on April 26.

A brutal hard-fought win over CBA began with a scoreless first inning, followed by a Fulton scoring six runs in the second. Continue reading

Free fishing program for kids May 17

Local author/photographer Spider Rybaak and Mike McGrath, McGrath & Associates Carp Angling Services, will conduct their popular kids fishing program from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 17.

The event will be at Lake Neatahwanta’s Bullhead Point (where the pier reaches out into the lake), on State Route 3 on Fulton’s west side.

Fishing tackle will be donated by Shakespeare, Cortland Line Co., SAMPO, Berkley, Alvey, Eagle Claw and Marukyu Baits. Attendees also can bring their own equipment.

Live bait also will be provided.

Students aged 16 and over must possess a valid NYS fishing license.
