The newest members of the Oswego Middle School National Junior Honor Society were recognized recently at induction ceremonies at the Robinson-Faust Theatre for the Performing Arts. In front (left to right) are  Jillian Dowdle, Nick Brown, Sophia Griffiths, Kelly Lizotte, Elly Maniccia, Elizabeth Martin while in back are faculty Adviser Danielle Rombough, Dylan Reitz, Olivia Rando, Dane Richardson, Sydney Terpening and faculty Adviser Sue Roik. Absent from photo are Jenna Bradshaw and  Clarissa Miller.

Actors needed for production of “Shrek”

The Oswego Children’s Theater is looking for many more than a few good actors to participate in their upcoming production of “Shrek the Musical.”

Auditions are scheduled for 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday May 13 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday May 16 at the New Haven Congregational Church, on Route 104 east between Oswego and Mexico.

The production will then get off to a quick start with the first rehearsal scheduled for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 17 also at the church. Continue reading

New site added for annual Arts Fest

CNY Arts Center announced a new downtown location for the 4th annual Arts Fest, which runs 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 14.

Included in the festival will be the Arts in the HeART Gallery at 47 S. First St., Fulton.

“We are celebrating the first anniversary of the gallery the entire month of June and felt the downtown location was perfect for our annual celebration of handmade original art,” said Nancy Fox, director.  Continue reading

Owner of Nine Mile Point 1 and 2 awards scholarships to employees’ children

Exelon Generation’s Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station has awarded three employees’ children 2014 educational scholarships.

This year’s scholarship recipients are Rebecca Hall, Sarah Tomlinson and Adam Clawson. They were selected from a pool of 28 applicants.

“Giving back to our community is a major focus for us,” said Chris Costanzo, site vice president. “I’m impressed with the quality of this year’s applications.” Continue reading

Granby carnival helps Make-A-Wish

The Granby Elementary School community united for a charitable cause Friday May 2 as the gymnasium and cafeteria were bustling with activities during an indoor carnival.

The event, which benefited Make-A-Wish of Central New York, featured bounce houses, carnival games, a photo booth and food. Each person purchased tickets to participate in the different activities, with all money going toward making a sick child’s dream come true. Continue reading

Mexican culture, history visit Fitzhugh Park on Cinco de Mayo

Ed Fayette’s Fitzhugh Park Elementary School fifth-grade class celebrated Cinco de Mayo Monday, May 5. The students listened to music, read about Mexican history and studied the Mexican culture and traditions. Celebrating were (front row left to right) Seth Sawyer, Haille LaSalle, Austin Murteza and Jack Anzalone while in back were Mackenzie Westberry, Haillee-May Swank, Riley Putnam, Troy Rook, Dominic Lopez, Noah Hooper and teacher Ed Fayette.
