More Oswego County residents are opting to register to vote without a party designation, according to the latest figures from the New York State Board of Elections.

As of Nov. 1, there were 16,453 voters registered as “blank” or no party. The figure represents a 636 increase since April 1.

The Democrat Party has realized a gain of 456 registered voters in the same six-month period, according to the state figures. The Republican saw a slight increase with a 210 increase in registrations since April. The Conservative Party gained 35 voters.

Oswego County had 77,832 registered voters in April and the November total is at 79,384, a gain of 1,552 registrations.

The Independence Party is at 4,273 voters, up from 4,089 in April. The Green Party registrations increased from 122 to 133 over the six-month period.

The Working Families Party increased from 439 to 451 since April.

The number of residents not selecting a party is up 783 since November 2011 and the Democrats have gained 465 registrants in the last year. The Republicans have gained 265 registrants since November 2011.
