Vincent Savona, chemistry teacher

Vincent J. Savona, 70, of Oswego, died Thursday, May 31, 2012 in Oswego Hospital.

Mr. Savona was born in Oswego, the son of the late Joseph and Stella (Azzarelli) Savona. He attended graduate school at UCLA and received his master’s degree from SUNY Oswego in science education.

Mr. Savona was a chemistry teacher at Central Square, prior to teaching chemistry at the Oswego High School for 29 years. He was an adjunct professor with Syracuse University.

Mr. Savona was inducted into the Oswego and New York State Softball Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Margaret  “Meg” Savona of Oswego; sons, Michael Savona of Oswego and Andrew (Tracy Haynes) Savona of Florida; sisters, Rosemary Frawley of Buffalo, Grace Chillemi of Oswego, and Virginia Familo of Oswego; step-grandchildren. Eric, Katherine, and James Trudell; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday at St. Joseph Church where a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated. Calling hours were held Sunday at Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home, Oswego.
