Lady Raiders topple Jamesville-DeWitt 18-6

The Fulton girls lacrosse team advanced to the next round of the Section III Class A playoffs following after defeating Jamesville-Dewitt 18-6 Tuesday.

The Lady Raiders were effective on both sides of the ball during the second half to turn what was a competitive game early on into a rout.

Though the Lady Raiders were the higher seed, Jamesville-Dewitt Fulton tougher than expected during the first half. Going into halftime, the Lady Raiders had only a three-goal lead at 8-5.

Fulton played like a higher seed during the second half.The Lady Raiders outscored Jamesville-Dewitt by nine goals during the second half en route to the 12-goal win.

Fulton was led by Amelia Coakley, who had six goals and an assist against Jamesville-Dewitt. Julia Ludington scored four goals while Erica Knaub had a goal and two assists.

Kate Rothrock, Andrea Gould, Jordan Rizzo, Alise Tallents, Erika Johnson, Casey Shannon and Alanah McClellan all scored a goal for Fulton.

The Lady Raiders converted upon nearly 80 percent of their shots while Fulton’s Torrie Whelsky saved 11 out of Jamesville-Dewitt’s 17 shots on goal.

Season concluded

The Fulton boys lacrosse team’s season came to an end with a loss to Carthage in the opening round of the Sectional playoffs Wednesday.

Following an impressive second quarter, Carthage took a commanding lead into halftime, which proved to be a deficit Fulton couldn’t overcome.

Despite the Red Raiders’ best efforts to rally during the second half, Carthage cruised to a 14-7 win over Fulton.

Phoenix softball holds off Oneida

Seven innings of play didn’t declare a winner when the Phoenix softball team took Oneida Saturday.

Despite trailing by three runs early in the game, the Lady Firebirds fought back to force extra innings.

After 10 innings, Phoenix got the extra run that it needed to come away with a 6-5 win over Oneida.

Oneida got onto the scoreboard right out of the gates. By the end of the first inning, it held a 2-0 lead. Oneida added another run during the top of the third inning, which brought the lead to 3-0.

During the bottom of the fourth inning, Phoenix began its comeback.

The Lady Firebirds scored a run and scored two more runs to tie the game at 3-3 during the bottom of the fifth inning.

Mexico rallies past Fulton

If high school softball consisted of only five innings of play then the Fulton softball team would have been victorious against Mexico last Friday.

Unfortunately for the Lady Raiders, high school softball lasts longer than five innings, which allowed the opportunity for Mexico to rally.

The opportunistic Lady Tigers rose to the occasion. During the sixth inning, the Lady Tigers took advantage of several opportunities for unearned runs to storm ahead of Fulton.

Mexico went on to prevail with a 4-2 win.

After a scoreless first inning, Fulton scored a run each in both of the bottom of the second and third innings. Neither team could score until the top of the sixth inning when Mexico rallied to take a 4-2 lead and the win.

Fulton girls lacrosse clinches regular season league title

Going into its Senior Night game against Whitesboro Tuesday, if the Fulton girls varsity lacrosse team won the last two games of the regular season, it will clinch the regular season league championship.

During the second half of their game, Fulton held Whitesboro scoreless en route to a 15-3 win. The next day, the Lady Raiders went to Cortland with the opportunity to clinch.

Though it took three overtimes, Fulton returned home as champions following an exciting and dramatic 13-12 win over Cortland.

When Fulton took the field for its Senior Night game against Whitesboro, the first half proved to be a bit more competitive than expected.

The Lady Raiders had a 6-3 halftime lead. However, this contest proved to be the tail of two halves.

Fulton comes up short against ES-M

The fifth inning proved to be pivotal during the Fulton Varsity softball team’s game against East Syracuse-Minoa Wednesday.

The Lady Raiders scored five runs to rally ahead for a brief lead. Unfortunately for Fulton, East Syracuse-Minoa tacked on a late run to escape with a 7-6 win.

East Syracuse-Minoa jumped out to a quick lead on Fulton. By the end of the second inning, East Syracuse-Minoa led 3-0. During the top of the fourth inning, the Lady Raiders got onto the scoreboard, which cut East Syracuse-Minoa’s lead down to 2 runs at 3-1.

Fulton kept it going during the fifth inning. The Lady Raiders exploded for a five runs for a 6-3 lead.

Fulton baseball team loses 15-1

The Fulton varsity baseball team struggled during its game against Syracuse West Friday.

The Raiders gave up nine unanswered runs as Syracuse West rolled to a 15-1 win.

Syracuse West scored six unanswered runs during the game’s first two innings. Fulton scored during the top of the third inning to cut the lead to 6-1.

Hannibal baseball team rallies for win

After four innings of play Saturday, the Hannibal baseball team trailed Marcellus by four runs.

The fifth inning proved to be pivotal, however. The Warriors exploded for seven runs during the top half of the inning to take a three-run lead.

Though Marcellus didn’t go down without a fight, Hannibal withstood the Mustangs’ response to hang on for a 10-8 win.

Fulton girls lacrosse tops Chittenango 14-5

The Fulton girls lacrosse team was impressive against Chittenango during the first half of last Thursday’s game.

The league-leading Lady Raiders scored 10 of its 14 total goals during the first half en route to a 14-5 win.

Fulton quickly set the tone for its solid performance. The Lady Raiders had a 10-3 lead over Chittenango at halftime. Despite trailing by a considerable margin, Chittenango played until the final whistle was blown.
