Richard Pero, Army veteran

Richard W. “Dick” Pero, 79, of Oswego, died Monday, June 11, 2012 at University Hospital.

He was born in Syracuse and grew up in Cato before moving to Oswego in 1963. He was a self-employed truck driver for 24 years, shipping produce from Florida to New York before becoming a member of the Teamsters Local 317, Syracuse. He then drove for Lakeshore Transportation in Oswego until his retirement in 1998.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a collector of International Harvester tractors and collectibles.

He was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Lena Pero, and by a brother, William Pero.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Margaret Hawk Pero; one son, Edward R. Pero of Oswego; a brother, Albert (Barbara) Pero of Liverpool; six grandchildren; and two nieces.

Calling hours and services were held Thursday at Foster Funeral Home, Hannibal.
