Port City Roller Derby to host Albany All-Stars June 15

Port City Roller Derby will look to avenge an early-season loss when the league hosts the Albany All-Stars on Saturday, June 15 in Crisafulli Rink.

Port City’s Breakwall Bombshells dropped a hard-hitting 184-140 bout to Albany’s A team on the road in early May.

For the Oswego rematch, the teams should take the floor around 7:30 p.m. An intraleague scrimmage for the new juniors team, the Lagoon Squad, will start at 6 p.m. Doors open at 5 p.m.

The Breakwall Bombshells are coming off a wild come-from-behind 137-124 win on the road over Enchanted Mountain Roller Derby’s Hellbilly Heartbreakers.

Tickets can be purchased at the door. Advance tickets are available online at portcityrollerderby.org or from any PCRD league member. Attendees interested in trackside seating are encouraged to bring their own chairs.

A portion of the proceeds will support Oswego County Parents of Special Children.

Port City Roller Derby gears up for third season

Port City Roller Derby will offer five home bouts in Crisafulli Rink entering the league’s third season playing this fast-growing sport.

Competing its first two years as Oz Roller Girls, PCRD’s Breakwall Bombshells will kick off its season May 25 hosting the Roc City Roller Derby B-Sides.

The veteran Rochester team won the only meeting between the leagues last season in a 205-188 thriller.

June 15, Port City will host the Albany All-Stars Roller Derby A Team. Oz topped Albany’s A squad twice last year in two exciting bouts, 204-162 in Albany, and 219-173 at home.

The annual intraleague bout will take place July 20. Two teams of Port City Roller Derby skaters will vie for pride.

Port City will welcome the Black Diamond Derby Dames Aug. 17. It is the first meeting between the local league and Black Diamond, based in Northern Pennsylvania.

PCRD will close the season with a doubleheader Sept. 14.

The Breakwall Bombshells will take on the Capital City Derby Dolls Dolly Rogers from Ottawa, a nationally ranked Canadian squad.

PCRD’s B squad of newer skaters will host the rookie Finger Lakes Lunachicks league.

Most home events also will feature bonus bouts with the Port City Roller Derby Juniors, a league for younger skaters ages 10 to 17.

More information on these matchups will be provided when opponents are confirmed. Doors open for bouts at 5 p.m. with action starting around 6 p.m.

The Breakwall Bombshells will take their show on the road for at least five away bouts: May 4 at Albany; June 1 at Enchanted Mountain Roller Derby’s Hellbilly Heartbreakers in Olean; July 13 at the Kingston Derby Girls’ Disloyalists; Aug. 10 at the Dolly Rogers in Ottawa; and Oct. 5 at the Ithaca League of Women Rollers’ Bluestockings.

A portion of proceeds from each bout will support a local charity. Last year, the league donated more than $1,000 in money and supplies to several Oswego County not-for-profits.

Season tickets are now available from the Season Tickets tab on the league’s web site at www.portcityrollerderby.org.

Fund-raiser to support roller derby team

Port City Roller Derby will team up with Friendly’s Thursday, April 11 for a fund-raiser pairing food with the non-profit organization’s community activities.

Anyone interested in supporting the fund-raiser can bring the voucher to the Oswego Friendly’s and present it to the server before ordering and 15 percent of the purchase will support the county’s first roller derby league.

The voucher is good any time between 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. on April 11 at the Oswego Friendly’s.

The voucher is available from any league member or online at www.portcityrollerderby.org/voucher.

Currently entering its third season of competition, Port City Roller Derby is gearing up for five home dates, starting May 25 in Oswego’s Crisafulli Rink.

Port City Roller Derby is produced by Oz Roller Girls Inc., a member-run non-profit organization dedicated to athletic competition, empowerment and supporting its community.

The group always seeks skaters, refs and other volunteers for its adult (18 and over) and juniors (ages 10 to 17) teams and will provide training.
