On April 19, Phoenix scored four runs during the seventh inning to pull away against Jordan-Elbridge.
The Firebirds got off to a solid start and didn’t look back when they took on Chittenango. After the first three innings, Phoenix had built a 7-0 lead. The Firebirds capped off their 12-0 win by scoring fivemore runs during the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings.
Phoenix was led by Nate Dietz. Dietz had three hits and an RBI against Chittenango. Following Dietz was Adam Thoryk with two hits and two RBI’s. Justin Suttliffe had two hits and an RBI. Remi Lynch, Bryce Plante and Emilio Tassone chipped in with a hit and two RBI’s each. Corey Bowman added three hits for the Firebirds.
On the mound, Emilio Tassone earned the win for Phoenix. Tassone struck out ten Chittenango batters while only giving up three hits in five innings of work. In relief of Tassone, Bowman threw two strikeouts in two innings of play.
The Firebirds faced a stiffer challenge when they took on Westhill. Once again, Phoenix got off to a decent start. They scored three runs during the first two and a half innings of the game.
However, Westhill scored to cut the Firebirds lead down to two runs at 3-1 during the bottom of the third inning. Westhill inched closer later in the game.
