Best-tasting drinking water contest slated

The Oswego County Health Department will hold its 22nd annual best-tasting drinking water contest Saturday, May 26 at the Fulton Memorial Day Salute.

Visitors will vote for their favorite samples of drinking water from municipal systems in Oswego County.  All municipal water supplies are eligible to enter the contest, which is coordinated by the health department’s environmental division.

“The contest is a friendly competition to remind people of the importance of protecting our water resources in Oswego County and across New York State,” said Natalie Roy, associate public health sanitarian for the Oswego County Health Department.  “The winner of the Oswego County competition will advance to the Syracuse regional contest in June, and regional winners will compete for the state title at the State Fair in August,” Roy added.

Local singers to perform at Fulton’s Memorial Day Salute

Two local musicians will be featured this year at the 31st  annual Fulton Memorial Day Salute.

Friday night, May 25 at 6 p.m, Rick Bush, a Fulton native, will bring his musical talents to the stage.

Bush has been performing for over 25 years with such groups as The Misfits, The Watson Boys, Dam Dog and The Moss Back Mule Band.

The 31st annual Fulton Memorial Day Salute will take place May 25 and 26 at the Fulton Community Center.

Each fall, the Fulton Veteran’s Council chooses a Veteran of the Year from among the membership of several Fulton veteran’s organizations.

This year, Charles Callen was named Veteran of the Year. He will be the grand marshal for the Memorial Day Salute Parade May 26.

The parade is sponsored by the Fulton Lions, Kiwanis, Rotary and Sunrise Rotary service clubs, in cooperation with the Fulton Veteran’s Council.

Children’s events, entertainment planned during Memorial Day Salute

The Fulton Memorial Day Salute will include events and entertainment geared toward children.

Throughout the day Saturday, May 26, Hayley Starr will be offering face painting and making balloon animals for the children.

Starr has been twisting balloons for about 20 years, learning when she was just 11 years old. She appears weekly during the summer at the Oswego Farmer’s Market.

At 2 p.m., the Magic of Virgil will begin.
