Meet the Fulton school board candidates

Four seats are open on the Fulton City School District Board of Education. There are five candidates:

Incumbent Barbara Hubbard, Timothy Crandell, incumbent David Cordone, Pamela Parker and Robert Briggs.

The four persons receiving the most votes during the May 20 election will serve three-year terms beginning in July.

Research shows Fulton Public Library lags in funding

The Fulton Public Library lags behind two similar libraries in the North Country Library System in funding for its staff members, according to data from the 2012 New York State Bibliostat report.

Library Director Betty Maute said Fulton serves a population similar to the Ogdensburg Public Library and the Canton Free Library with less money.

“What they pay for staff alone is our entire budget,” Maute told The Valley News. “There’s a big discrepancy between us and other libraries serving the same (size) population in the North Country Library System.” Continue reading

Watch Fulton school budget hearing on Time Warner Cable

The public hearing on the Fulton City School District’s proposed 2014-2015 budget will air on Time Warner Cable public access channel 96 in Fulton.

The hearing will air on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, May 14 — 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
  • Thursday, May 15 — Noon, 11 p.m.
  • Sunday, May 18 — 11 p.m.
  • Monday, May 19 — 6 a.m., noon, 8 p.m.
  • Tuesday, May 20 — 6  and 8 a.m., noon

The vote on the school budget and for four board positions, a transportation proposition, the Fulton Library Charter and Tax Proposition, and election of seven library trustees, is 9 a.m to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, at Lanigan, Granby, Fairgrieve and Volney elementary schools.
