Second quarter eruption propels Watertown past Fulton football

by Rob Tetro

After an impressive win over Fowler, the Fulton Varsity Football Team traveled to Watertown last Friday to face one of the tougher teams in Class A.

Watertown scored 29 points in the second quarter that turned a six-point lead into a 28-point halftime lead.

After scoring a combined 43 points in the second and third quarters alone, Watertown was on its way to a 57-20 win over Fulton.

The Red Raiders trailed by only six points at the end of the first quarter. Watertown’s lone first quarter touchdown came on a 7 yard touchdown pass from Mason Phillips to Anton Gadson.

Shortly into the second quarter, Watertown’s Mason Phillps found Scott Kelly for a 57-yard touchdown pass and a 14-0 lead. Shortly thereafter, Watertown’s Juan Ruiz recovered a Fulton fumble in the endzone, which made the score 20-0.

Later in the second quarter, Watertown made the score 28-0 following a 97-yard touchdown run by Anton Gadson.

Towards the end of the second quarter, Fulton finally got on the scoreboard. Mark Pollack brought the deficit down to 21 points at 28-7 following a 15-yard touchdown run.

Just before the second quarter ended, the Red Raiders got the ball back with the opportunity to further cut into Watertown’s lead.
