Fulton will again host the Great Eastern Whiteout Saturday, Feb. 9 beginning at 8 a.m. at the Fulton War Memorial.

This is Fulton’s fourth year of hosting the event.

The Great Eastern Whiteout  is the largest vintage sled show and swap meet in the Eastern United States. In order for a snowmobile to be considered vintage, the machine must be at least 25 years old.

According to coordinator Jim Latino, 3,000 or more people, traveling as far as Minnesota and Canada, are expected.

The Great Eastern Whiteout is a non-profit event, organized and staffed by volunteers and members of the Fulton Area Snow Travelers.

The event includes a sled raffle, indoor and outdoor vendors and races for different sled categories.

This year, the featured sled is a 1974 Polaris TX 250 Vintage Snowmobile.

There will also be a 30-mile vintage trail ride to breakfast at the Lysander Fire Department on Lamson Road Sunday, Feb. 10. The ride will begin at 9 a.m. at the Fulton War Memorial. The breakfast ride is condition permitting and those wishing to drive are also welcome.

Knee-Hi basketball and Youth Hockey will sell food to benefit their organizations A portion of the proceeds of the event will got to a BOCES scholarship fund. Proceeds from past events have benefited the Fulton CYO and local food banks.

The Fulton Area Snow Travelers, the southwestern Oswego County Snowmobile club that hosts the event, meets the second Tuesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at RFH’s Hideaway Restaurant in Phoenix.

On a good year, the club has 350 to 500 members, according to club President Mark Greco.

He noted recently that a lot of people don’t join until the last minute because of the lack of snowfall. The trails were never open last season because of the light snow coverage.
