Hannibal loses last three games

The Hannibal girls varsity basketball team’s season ended with losses to Solvay, Bishop Grimes and Westhill.

Solvay outscored Hannibal 31-18 during the second half Feb. 9 to pull away for a 48-36 win.

Leading the way for Hannibal was Devin Sorell, who scored 18 points. Gabby Griffin added six points and Spencer Kenney added five points. Sarah Otis, Kaitlin Taylor, Trinity Strupp and Alexis Stephens combined to score seven points for The Lady Warriors.

Two days later, Bishop Grimes outscored Hannibal 25-10 during the second half to come away with a 54-35 win.

Sorell scored 18 points while Kenney added six points. Strupp chipped in four points and Hunter Beckwith, Stephens and Griffin combined to score 7 points.

It didn’t get any easier when the Lady Warriors took on league-leading Westhill Feb. 12. After the first quarter, Westhill took over. They outscored Hannibal 43-17 the rest of the way en route to a 57-25 win.

Hannibal girls basketball team dominates Red Creek

The Hannibal girls varsity basketball team split games against Red Creek and Solvay recently.

Hannibal shut out Red Creek during the first quarter of its game en route to a dominating win Jan. 19.

Unfortunately for the Lady Warriors, the second proved to be unkind to them when they took on Solvay Jan. 23. Solvay outscored Hannibal 30-18 during the third and fourth quarters to come away with the win.

The Lady Warriors quickly set the tone for an impressive performance against Red Creek. They jumped out to a 12-0 lead by the end of the first quarter and didn’t look back. Hannibal outscored Red Creek by five points during the second quarter to take a 17 point lead into halftime at 19-2.

The Lady Warriors didn’t let up during the third quarter either. They outscored Red Creek by eight points to extend their lead to 25 points. Hannibal put the finishing touches on a solid performance during the fourth quarter. Hannibal outscored Red Creek by four points to cap off a 43-14 win.

Leading the way for the Lady Warriors was Devin Sorell, who scored 16 points. Following Sorell was Gabby Griffin with eight points.

Trinity Strupp, Kaylee Esposito and Sara Williams added four points each while E.J. Setsaas, Alexis Stephens and Kaitlin Taylor combined to score seven points.

Hannibal girls basketball team defeats J-E, loses to Skaneateles

The Hannibal girls varsity basketball team went 1-1 last week in games against Jordan-Elbridge and Skaneateles.

An impressive start led Hannibal to victory against Jordan-Elbridge Jan. 3. Unfortunately, the Lady Warriors were not as successful when they took on Skaneateles Jan. 8.

By the numbers, the Lady Warriors were expected to dominate Jordan-Elbridge and they did just that. By the end of the first quarter, Hannibal had jumped out to a 23-0 lead.

The Lady Warriors dominating performance continued into the second quarter. Hannibal outscored Jordan-Elbridge by 15 points to extend its lead to 38 points going into halftime at 39-1.

The Lady Warriors outscored Jordan-Elbridge by 12 points during the third quarter to push their lead to 50 points.

During the fourth quarter, Hannibal put the finishing touches on the 65-11 win.

Devin Sorell led Hannibal with 16 points. Following Sorell were Gabby Griffin with 10 points and Alexis Stephens with eight points. Kaylee Esposito chipped in seven points, Sara Otis added six points, and Trinity Strupp, E.J. Setsaas, Hunter Beckwith, Spencer Kenney, Sara Williams, Erin Sly and Kaitlin Taylor combined to score 18 points.
