Phoenix softball wins wild game against Chittenango

Phoenix varsity girls softball Coach Casey Jones has mentioned several times that if his team does not play to its capabilities, it still has an incomparable will to win.

Jones’ statement was never more true than it was when his team took Chittenango Friday. Despite six costly errors, the Lady Firebirds came from behind for a dramatic 13-12 win.

Chittenango got things going quickly, taking a 1-0 lead during the top of the first inning. However, the game became far more interesting during the second inning. Chittenango added five more runs to bring its lead to 6-0.

Phoenix softball answers Christian Brothers Academy’s challenge

The Phoenix varsity softball team didn’t play its best when it took on Christian Brothers Academy Friday.

Phoenix led most of the game when the contest moved into the sixth inning. By the end of the top of the sixth inning, The Lady Firebirds found themselves tied with Christian Brothers Academy.

What followed during the bottom of the sixth inning was of no surprise to Phoenix Coach Casey Jones. Phoenix quickly scored two runs, allowing the Lady Firebirds to escape with a 5-3 win.

Phoenix softball team seeks to defend sectional crown

You can’t blame Phoenix varsity softball coach Casey Jones’ excitement for the upcoming season.

The majority of a team that won a sectional championship a year ago returns this year.

“They are in super shape and look good,” Jones said.

Jones suggested that if his team can realize its potential the Firebirds could see another successful season for the Lady Firebirds.

Phoenix will feature seven returning starters from a 2011 team that went deep into the state playoffs.
