by Rob Tetro

Last week, the Hannibal boys varsity basketball team lost to Solvay and Cazenovia.

An impressive second quarter helped Solvay blow the game wide open en route to a win against Hannibal Jan. 24.

It didn’t get any easier when the Warriors took on Cazenovia Jan. 29.

Though Hannibal was in it for most of the game, Cazenovia pulled away during the fourth quarter for a double-digit win.

A solid first half helped Solvay cruise to a win over the Warriors. Solvay led 40-18 at halftime.

After a competitive third quarter, Hannibal was able to cut into Solvay’s lead. However, Solvay put the finishing touches on an impressive win during the fourth quarter. They outscored The Warriors by nine points to cap off a 75-45 win.

Trevor Alton led Hannibal with 20 points. Billy Skipper finished with 11 points while Ryan Perry, Sam McCraith and Jake Shortslef chipped in four points each. Charlie McCraith added two points.

Hannibal faced a similar fate when it took on Cazenovia. After a decent start, Cazenovia built a five- point lead over the Warriors by the end of the first quarter. Cazenovia cushioned its lead during the second quarter to take a 37-24 halftime lead.

The Warriors battled back during the third quarter, outscoring Cazenovia by five points.
