The Town of Volney’s Airport Water District Extension #2 was recently approved by property owners.

Out of the 138 people who live in the district, 51 total people voted. Forty-one voted yes while 10 residents voted no.

Airport Water District Extension #2 is located along portions of New York State Route 3, County Route 6, Hawk Road, and parts of Baldwin and Rowlee Road.

A survey was sent and those who needed water the most were considered by the town first. The town is currently working down the list of districts.

The Town of Volney has determined that the proposed Airport Water District Extension #2 will not have a significant adverse environmental impact. The action involves the installation of approximately 30,000 linear feet of eight-inch and 10-inch water distribution mains, valves, hydrants and water service lines.

Everyone in the water district will pay a maintenance cost in addition to a water cost. The maintenance cost is $427 over the course of a 38-year mortgage. Those living in the district, whether they hook up to the water or not, will pay the $427.

Town Clerk Barb MacEwen said that the projected yearly (per household) usage is $328. The usage cost is divided quarterly.

The total amount fluctuates depending on the size of the household. For instance, a house with only two people may have a lower bill than a family of four.

According to Supervisor Dennis Lockwood, work on the project won’t begin for at least another year. New York Rural Development has promised preliminary funds.
