Phoenix varsity girls softball Coach Casey Jones has mentioned several times that if his team does not play to its capabilities, it still has an incomparable will to win.
Jones’ statement was never more true than it was when his team took Chittenango Friday. Despite six costly errors, the Lady Firebirds came from behind for a dramatic 13-12 win.
Chittenango got things going quickly, taking a 1-0 lead during the top of the first inning. However, the game became far more interesting during the second inning. Chittenango added five more runs to bring its lead to 6-0.
The Fulton girls lacrosse team hosted Jamesville-DeWitt Saturday in a game that was a battle for the top spot in the league.

The Lady Raiders made 81 percent of their shot in the 13-11 win, which put them at the top of the league standings.
Following a competitive first half, Fulton took an 8-6 lead into halftime. The second half was even more competitive as both teams scored five goals a piece. J-D, however, was unable to cut into the Lady Raiders’ lead as they escaped with the two-goal win.

With Mexico’s batters struggling to score, it seemed as if the Firebirds were on their way to victory. However, despite its impressive lead, Phoenix did not lose focus.
Instead of potentially allowing Mexico back into the game, the Firebirds added four more runs during the top of the sixth inning. These runs later proved to assist Phoenix in holding off Mexico for a 9-6 win.
