Mexico coach, wrestler honored

Assemblyman Will Barclay, R-Pulaski, recently honored Mexico Academy and Central High School Varsity Wrestling Coach William Kays and Mexico Academy junior Trevor Allard with Assembly resolutions. Kays recently was named Coach of the Year by the Friends of Section 3 Wrestling Committee. On June 2, the state Assembly recognized and honored Coach Kays and his dedication to the sport. Kays has been the coach for 26 years. This year, the team had a record of 13-2. Helping the team to achieve the record was Trevor Allard. Barclay also presented Allard with an Assembly resolution. Allard captured the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Division II 160-pound wrestling championship this year for Mexico. Pictured from left are Allard, Barclay and Kays. State Sen. Patty Ritchie also passed resolutions in the Senate commemorating both Kays and Allard as well.
