Valedictorian Michael Holcomb’s speech:

Thank you Mr. Greene, Mr. Charles, Mrs. Parkhurst, Mr. Lynch, members of the board of eductaion. Thanks also to family and friends that have chosen to attend the ceremony, and of course my fellow members of the class of 2014.

As I was writing this speech I would constantly hear two phrases that irked me.

First: “It doesn’t really matter what you say, no one will remember it down the road anyways.” Second: “All graduation speeches sound the same: ‘We made it,’ or ‘We did it,’” and so on. Continue reading

Lanigan conducts annual Game Day

game day

Lanigan Elementary School in Fulton held its annual Game Day June 19. First time game-dayers, the kindergartners, through the sixth-graders and a few teachers too joined in the several activities set up on the grassy field behind the school.

Fairgrieve ends the year with Game Day

Students in grades kindergarten through sixth bonded over fun activities during Fairgrieve’s recent Game Day. Classes in this end-of-the-year tradition competed with one another in a variety of activities and challenges such as a torch relay, sack and three-legged race, balancing games, and more. The last stop on their Game Day route was for popsicles donated by the Parent-Teacher Organization. Above at left, second-grader Brogan Quirk and Easton Kent (background) balance baseballs on a Frisbee during a relay race at the annual Fairgrieve Elementary Game Day. The frisbee carry was just one of eight team-based activities that students competed in. At right, Hailey Jenkins is perfectly poised as she navigates the course for the torch relay during the Fairgrieve Elementary School Annual Game Day.
