Oswego County solid waste transfer stations will close one day per week beginning Tuesday, July 1, in a measure to reduce operating costs of the solid waste system.
The new schedule was approved by the County Legislature at its May 15 meeting.
Under the new schedule, the Hannibal transfer station will be closed Mondays; Pulaski closed Tuesdays; Hastings closed Wednesdays; Oswego closed Thursdays; and Bristol Hill closed Fridays.
The new schedule will result in a cost-savings of about $189,845 annually through the elimination of vacant positions, re-assignment of solid waste staff and reduced operating costs.
Director of Solid Waste Programs Frank Visser was directed by the Legislature to look at options to close the gap on the amount of money needed to subsidize the county transfer stations.
The new schedule was developed after an extensive review of traffic, waste and recyclables hauled to the five transfer stations.
The Legislature also approved a revised fee schedule for 2015. Weigh and pay fees at the transfer stations will go up to $125 per ton; tip fees at the landfill and Energy Resource Facility increase to $65 per ton; and construction and demolition rates for major haulers will increase to $50 per ton at the landfill and ERF. The increase for the residential sticker fee remains at $10 and will be $175 for 2015.
Oswego County transfer stations and recycling drop-off centers are located at Bristol Hill, 3125 NYS Route 3, Volney; 1167 County Route 7, Hannibal; 1391 U.S. Route 11, Hastings; 700 E. Seneca St., Oswego; and 100 County Route 2A, Pulaski.
The transfer stations and recycling drop-off centers are open weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon. Sticker and punch card sales and weigh scales close ½-hour before the transfer stations close.
