Community spiritual event this weekend at Oswego First United Methodist Church

The Oswego First United Methodist Church invites the community to a weekend of music, food and spiritual revival at 7 p.m. Friday, June 6 and Saturday, June 7 and at 10 a.m. Sunday, June 8.

There will be music by the FUMC Praise band, the FUMC Choir and refreshments. There will a picnic following the Sunday service on June 8. Come to one, two or all three parts of the event.

The speaker for the event will be the Rev. Timothy Kriebel, senior pastor at the Bethlehem UMC near West Chester, PA. Following college, Pastor Tim graduated magna cum laude from Wesley Theological Seminary with a master of divinity degree in 1981; a year later he was ordained an elder in the Eastern PA Conference of the United Methodist Church.

Pastor Tim has served five churches during his career. His favorite pastoral activity is teaching, his favorite fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) is joy, and his most fulfilling spiritual discipline is soaking prayer (ask him what it is!).

He likes sports but loves chocolate, he watches too much TV but also enjoys reading mystery, spy and thriller novels. His most fervent prayer is that the Holy Spirit would bring revival to the church he serves and that it would then spread to other churches and throughout the larger communities surrounding them!

Pastor Tim will speak on the Holy Spirit. Some of the topics to be covered include:

  • A Biblical Overview of the Person of the Holy Spirit and the Purpose of the Holy Spirit
  • The Fruit vs. the Gifts of the Holy Spirit
  • The Wesleyan theology and experience of the Holy Spirit
  • Baptism vs. the release of the Holy Spirit

For more information, call the First United Methodist Church at 343-6335.

The church is located at 7111 State Route 104 West across from Fruit Valley Vet Clinic.

When to get involved if you suspect pet abuse

Dear Porky  & Buddy,

My neighbor has a dog that he keeps tied out behind his house. I can barely see into his backyard, but as far as I can tell the dog spends most of its time out there and there is never any food or water for it.

Is it OK if I just go over there and feed and water the dog myself when he is not home? The yard is not posted or anything.
