Slosek named new Oswego city historian

Mayor Thomas W. Gillen of Oswego has chosen Mark J. Slosek as new city historian.

Slosek is a retired school administrator and former American history teacher, whose career in public education spanned 39 years of service with the Fulton school district.  

He received his bachelor’s in history and education from Niagara University and a master’s in history and a certificate of advanced study in school administration from SUNY Oswego.  Continue reading

News in Brief: Yoberry opens, free movies

 The grand opening for Yoberry Frozen Yogurt Bar in Oswego is Sunday June 15.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. The new store is at 250 W. Seneca St., Oswego and serves 160 different flavors of frozen yogurt and 60 different toppings. 

The business also offers a reward program — for every dollar spent, a patron gets one point. For 40 points, the patron gets a free 8-ounce frozen yogurt. Continue reading

DOT works with BOCES heavy equipment students

The state Department of Transportation recently visited students in Oswego County BOCES Heavy Equipment Repair and Operation program to explain job opportunities with the state, and to stress the importance of safety and proper usage of four different pieces of training equipment. Pictured is Equipment Trainer Cornell Bennett from the state DOT with student Garret Snyder, a student in the Mexico school district, on a Gradall XL3100, used for ditching. The DOT also brought a detach trailer used to haul equipment to demonstrate the correct way to load and chain down equipment to meet DOT regulations.
