It’s time for the Oswego County Fair!

An overview of the hustle and bustle at the Oswego County Fairgrounds in Sandy Creek during the annual Oswego County Fair. The fair opens its run this year Wednesday July 2 and runs through Sunday July 6. There is free admission and free parking, but some grandstand shows may charge an admission fee. The fairgrounds is on Ellisburg Street, a left turn off Route 11 if you’re heading north right by the Tops grocery store.

George E. Weldin, retired from Carrier Corp.

George G. Weldin, 85, of Oswego, died Monday June 23, 2014 in Seneca Hill Manor, Volney.

He was born in Granby, and has been a lifetime resident of Oswego County. Mr. Weldin retired from Carrier Corp. in Syracuse as an air compressor builder.

He was a former Granby Volunteer Firefighter, a member of the National Campers and Hikers Association, and the Fulton and Oswego Stamp Club.

Mr. Weldin was predeceased by his wife Charlene Weldin in 2014, his daughter Katrina, and grandson George Carvey.

He is survived by his children Ola (Paul) Williams of AK, Bruce (June) Weldin of SC, Donnajean VanBuren of Fulton, stepdaughters Florence Ross and Cynthia Masuicca of Oswego, sister Nellie Hillman of Oswego, and several grandchildren.

Funeral services, and burial will be private. The arrangements are in the care of the Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home 147 W. Fourth St., Oswego. 

Rousing musical ‘ Gypsy ’ comes to Oswego Players stage in July

A musical based on the memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee was a project of producer David Merrick and actress Ethel Merman and now is being brought to life by the Oswego Players. Continue reading

Oswego Health doctors named Rural Practitioners of the Year

Two Pulaski-based physicians, known for the compassionate quality care they provide their patients, were presented the Rural Practitioners of the Year award during a new provider welcome reception.

Dr. Jay Chapman, and his wife, Dr. Patricia (Pat) Ledden Chapman, provide care at Oswego County Health Services Inc., located on Delano Street in Pulaski.

The two physicians, who said they were highly honored to receive the award, will celebrate their 30th year with the health center in July.

At the reception, held to welcome new physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners, the Chapmans talked about how providing care has changed during the last three decades.  Continue reading

Oswego Health offering workshops on healthy living starting in July

Oswego Health is once again offering free healthy living workshops for community members who want to better manage their chronic conditions.
