Joseph Osetek, Former county legislator

OBITS-OsetekJoseph_WJoseph A. “Smokey” Osetek, 87, of Oswego, died Monday Jan. 21, 2013 in Oswego Hospital.

Mr. Osetek was born in Oswego, the son of the late Antoni and Catherine (Tencza) Osetek.

Mr. Osetek was educated in local schools and he attended various technical schools, receiving I.C.S. certification in combustion engineering. He participated in labor relation seminars where he received certification in labor relations. Mr. Osetek was a service engineer at Ames Iron Works and Fitzgibbons Boiler works, before becoming a NYS Boiler inspector for many years until his retirement in 1992 as a NYS Senior Boiler Inspector.

He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Stephen the King Parish. Mr. Osetek served as Oswego County Legislator, representing the seventh ward in the city of Oswego from 1972 until 1995 and he was a member of Oswego County Board of Health and Community Service Board from 1984 until 2012.

He enjoyed golfing, fishing and hunting.

He was predeceased by his stepfather, Andrew Kalinowski; brothers, John, Stanley, and Frank Osetek; and sisters, Helen Osetek, Wanda Sczupak and Connie Kalinowski.

Mr. Osetek is survived by his wife of 54 years, Diane (Heagerty) Osetek of Oswego; children, Gregory (Judith) Osetek of Oswego, Julia (John) Schwaller of Florida; grandsons, Benjamin Joseph Schwaller, Andrew and Alexander Osetek; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted today, Jan. 26 at 10 a.m. at St. Stephen the King Church, Oswego, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated.

Contributions may be made in Mr. Osetek’s name to St. Stephen the King Church Building Fund, 138 Niagara St., Oswego, NY 13126.

Arrangements are in the care of the Sugar & Scanlon Funeral Home, Oswego.

Jordan Davies, GRB graduate

OBITS-DaviesJordan_WJordan R. Davies, 21, of Fulton, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

A 2010 graduate of G. Ray Bodley High School in Fulton, he was currently employed by Ryder Transportation in East Syracuse as a diesel technician.

He played Fulton Youth Hockey and had raced in the Oswego County Quarter Midget Club. He loved trucks, BMX bikes, four wheeling and racing.

He was involved with the local laborers union.

He was predeceased by his grandparents, Leonard J. Pfeiffer and Michaelene A. Wasicko Davies; great-grandparents, Helene and Otto Pfahl; Mildred and George Davies and Jake and Patricia Batchelor.

Surviving are his parents, Michael and Kelly Davies of Fulton; siblings, Jonathan Davies of North Carolina, Chelsea (Anthony) Wise of Fulton, Michaelene Davies, Benjamin Davies and Audra Joy Stanski, all of Fulton; grandparents, Robert and Frances Davies of Lowville, Fred and Lynn Batchelor of Oswego, Charlotte Pfahl of Sandy Creek; favorite nephew, Brayden Anthony; his favorite companion “Toot”; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Calling hours will be held today, Jan. 26 from 3 to 6 p.m. with services to immediately follow at 6 p.m. at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay St., Fulton.

Longin Minota, Phoenix resident

OBITS-MinotaLongin_WLongin John “Red” Minota, 89, of Phoenix, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse.

Born in Syracuse April 26, 1923 to Anthony and Elizabeth Minota, he had lived in the Phoenix area most of his life. He retired as a mechanic from Allied Chemical after more than 30 years.

He had also owned and operated a farm for many years.

He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Muriel J. Truax Minota, who died Jan. 22, 2007.

He is survived by daughters, Linda (Herman) Harrington of Fulton, Judy Petrie of Pennellville, Constance (Mike) Root of Fulton, Christine (Brett) McBean of Fulton and Sally (Mike) Karkruff of Phoenix; sons, Stephen Minota of Phoenix and Andy Minota of Sandy Creek; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday at Foster Funeral Home, Fulton. Calling hours were held Wednesday at the funeral home.

Terry Romano, Fulton gymnastics coach

OBITS-RomanoTerry_WTerry Romano, 68, of Fulton, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013.

Born in Lyons, he has lived in the Fulton area for 40 years. He had worked for Oswego Industries and Catholic Charities.

He had owned and operated Stingers Gymnastics Club and was the gymnastics coach for Fulton schools. He enjoyed playing softball, bowling, fishing and golf.

He is survived will be loved and greatly missed by his wife of 40 years, Diane; daughters, Cinda Reid of Mexico and Rebecca (Dr. Andrew) Miner of Maine; a brother, Thomas Romano; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.

Calling hours and services were held Friday at Foster Funeral Home, Fulton.

Chrystal Recore, Oswego resident

Chrystal A. Recore, 32, of Oswego, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013 at home.

Born in Oswego, she was a life resident of the area.

She is survived by her children, Tyler, Nate, Kalista, Ashton, Kierstin; her mother, Tina Cook; father, David Rose; a sister, Denisha Shoults; a brother, Jamie Cook; step-sister, Melissa Bennett; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A calling hour and services were held Friday at Foster Funeral Home, Fulton.

John Young, Retired pipefitter

John C. Young, 74, of Oswego, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013 in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

He retired in 1996 from Armstrong after more than 30 years as a pipefitter. He had also worked part-time as a ranger at Griffins Greens.

He was an avid golfer and a jokester.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Lynn; daughter, Karen Acome (Dan O’Brien); granddaughters, Corrin Acome of New York City and Jenica Acome of Denver, Colo.; sisters, Betty Smith, Priscilla Marcino and Catheren (Bruno) Caffola, all of Fulton; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. tomorrow, Jan. 24 at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay St., Fulton with a service to immediately follow. Contributions may be made to No. Myrtle Beach Fire & Rescue; 1015 2nd Ave. South, Myrtle Beach, SC 29582, or to a favorite charity.

Kathleen Lennon, Fulton library clerk

OBITS-LennonKathleen_WKathleen Ann Lennon, 46, of Fairway Circle, Baldwinsville, died Jan. 15, 2013 at Upstate University Hospital.

She was born July 25, 1966 to her parents, Mary Ann (Upcraft) and Harry J. Lennon.

She was a 1984 graduate of G. Ray Bodley High School. She was a library clerk for over 24 years at Fulton Public Library. She also was a substitute library clerk at the Central Square Public Library.

She was predeceased by her brother, David J. Lennon, March 17, 2012.

Surviving are her mother and father, Mary Ann and Harry J. Lennon of Summerfield, Fla.; her aunt, Sue Weaver of Baldwinsville; three uncles, Charles and Robert Lennon, both of Baldwinsville, and Bruce Upcraft of Madera, Calif.; her sister-in-law, Christine B. Lennon of Phoenix; cousins, Sarah, Lori, Jody, Bill, Shaun, Andrea, Deborah, and Gerald; and her two favorite companions, Patches and Puck.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at a later date.

Marjorie Woodworth, Hannibal resident

OBITS-WoodworthMarjorie_WMarjorie H. Woodworth, 97, of Hannibal, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012 at St. Luke Health Services in Oswego.

She was a lifelong resident of Hannibal and graduated from Hannibal High School. She worked at SUNY Oswego and Harwood Nursing Home.

In her younger years, she was an active member of several civic organizations, including the Hannibal Community Church and the 4H Club.

She was predeceased by her husband, Charles E. “Gene” Woodworth, who died Nov. 10, 1998, and a daughter, Bonnie Jean Radtke, who died April 26, 2001.

She is survived by her son, Charles E. Woodworth, Jr. of Freeville; a sister, Sheila Fowler of Verona Beach, Fla; several nieces, including Isabel Russell of Graham, Wash., Bernice (Arnold) Green of Ashville, N.C., and Kay Sharon (Don) Barney of Florida; and several nephews, including David Fowler of Fort Pierce, Fla. and James (Carol) Fowler of Vero Beach, Fla.

A Calling hour will be held Saturday, Jan. 26 from 10 to 11 a.m. with a memorial service to follow at God’s Vision Christian Church, 326 Church St., Hannibal.
