Barbara Whitmer, Worked at Nestle

Barbara J. Diamond Whitmer, 56, of Fulton, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse.

She was a life resident of the Fulton area and had worked at Wal-Mart. She had previously worked at Nestle Co. in Fulton.

She enjoyed reading, cooking, cake decorating and the time spent with family and friends.

She was predeceased by her father, Charles Diamond.

She is survived by her husband, Daniel Whitmer; her mother, Alice Diamond; siblings, Lois Groat, Susan Mastro, Gail Patterson, Charles Diamond, Joyce Geble, Joan Diamond,  Janet Busch; as well as Daniel’s family, several nieces, nephews and cousins.  Calling hours were held Friday at Foster Funeral Home, Fulton.

Duane C. Farrell, Navy veteran

Duane C. Farrell, 86, of Fulton, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012 at home.

Born in Wilmington, N.Y., he had resided in Fulton since 1971. He retired in 1988 from Local 747 as a carpenter where he worked for many years. He had also worked overseas as general foreman and supervisor in East Pakistan, Vietnam, Iran and had made two trips to Africa.

He was a Navy veteran serving from 1944 to 1946. He loved to restore antique cars. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Surviving are his wife, the former Jean Fetkiw; son, Scot (Jeanne) Farrell of Oswego; daughter, Tia (Jeff) Preston of Lake Placid; three grandchildren, Melissa (Donald) Herbert, Aaron Farrell and Keir Demars; and two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Zachary Herbert.

There are no calling hours or services. Contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice in Duane’s memory.

Foster Funeral Home was in care of arrangement.

Carmella Bifera, Former Fulton resident

Carmella Bifera, 99, formerly of Fulton, died peacefully Dec. 23, 2012 at Albany County Nursing Home, Albany.

Mrs. Bifera was born in Fulton to the late Vincent and Gidia (Vecchio) Di Bernardo. She was a homemaker and she loved to sew, read and she was an avid gardener while raising her family.

Later, Mrs. Bifera was employed with Birds Eye Foods, Fulton.  She was a member of the Fulton Alliance Church, Fulton.

Mrs. Bifera was pre-deceased by her husband, John Bifera in 1975, and two brothers, Jack and Joseph DiBernardo.

She is survived by her sons,  Frank (Lisa) Bifera of Albany and John (Joanne) Bifera of Fulton; three daughters, Marie Miller of Virginia, Hilda Scaccia of Georgia, and Christine Bifera of Virgina; two sisters, Kay Dickquist and Rose Pannofino of Fulton; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three nephews.

Funeral services and calling hours will be held privately.  Burial will be held in the spring at Mt. Adnah Cemetery, Fulton.  Donations may be made to the Fulton Alliance Church, State Route 48, Fulton, NY 13069.

Emily Cali, Owned Cali’s Casa Nova

OBITS-CaliEmilyEmily M. Cali, 90, a resident of Fulton, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012 in Oswego Hospital.

Mrs. Cali was born in Bronx, the daughter of the late Frank and Emily (Kistner) Ptacek.

Mrs. Cali with her late husband Rosario “Ray” Cali, and Vincent and Barbara Cali owned and operated Cali’s Casa Nova in Fulton, and Rosario “Ray” and Emily owned and operated Cali’s Mini Italia in Granby.

She was an avid attendee of morning mass at Holy Family and Holy Trinity Churches.

She is survived by her children, Raymond (Barbara) Cali of Fulton, Patricia (Douglas) Hart of Fulton, Linda (David) Brown of Rochester, and Michael (Sandra) Cali of Fulton; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday at the Sugar Funeral Home, Fulton and at Holy Trinity Church, Fulton. Entombment will be All Saints Mausoleum, Oswego.

Calling hours were held Thursday at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Christopher Naylor, Fulton resident

OBITS-NaylorChristopherChristopher H. Naylor, 64, of Fulton, died Tuesday, Dec. 18 at Oswego Hospital following a sudden illness.

A native of Syracuse, he had lived in Fulton for over 30 years. He was manager at Crazy Gator Bar & Grill and former co-owner and operator of the Lock III Restaurant, both in Fulton.

Previously, he was manager at Old Stone Mill in Skaneateles, Bragg’s Cafe in Syracuse and Valle’s Steakhouse in Washington, D.C.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1968 to 1971 where he learned his restaurant management skills.

He was predeceased by his father, Harry Naylor, who died July 26, 2012.

Surviving are his mother, Georgine (Daigle) Naylor of Clay; a sister, Carol (Marc Gaiger) Bell of Pittsford; a brother, Richard (Diane) Naylor of Syracuse; five nieces and nephews; an aunt and a uncle; and several cousins.

Vigil services were held Thursday at Foster Funeral Home, Fulton with military honors. Calling hours were also held Thursday at the funeral home.

Albert Reitz, Lifelong Fulton resident

obit-Albert-Reitz-300x337Albert Reitz, 87, of Fulton, died Tuesday morning, December 25, 2012 after a short illness. Mr. Reitz was born in Oswego the son of the late Anthony and Anna (Cordean) Reitz.

Mr. Reitz retired from the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local #73, where he worked at the steam station and three nuclear power plants. He served in the United States Army during World War II, and he enjoyed bowling.

Mr. Reitz was predeceased by his wife, Elaine V. Reitz, in 1997; his brother, James Reitz; and sisters, Betty Vincent, Mary Margaret Bellinger and Rose Nelson.

He is survived by his children, Judith G. Reitz of Fulton, Diane E. (David) Litchison-Kuzio of Fulton, Thomas (Ann) Reitz of Oswego, Timothy (Susan) Reitz of Oswego, Rebecca A. Reitz of MA and Regina M. (Walter Glusczyk) Reitz of Fulton; his sisters Shirley (Jim) Omundsen, Patricia (Bill) Harrington and brothers Nick (Nancy) Reitz, all of Oswego, and Anthony (Dorothy) Reitz of PA; grandchildren Amy, Jeffrey, Teresa, Jon, Matthew and Nicole; six great-grandchildren; special granddog, Sadie, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. from Sugar Funeral Home, Fulton, and 11:30 a.m. in Holy Trinity Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Spring burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fulton.

Calling hours will be Saturday, prior to the service, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home, 224 W. 2nd. St. S., Fulton.

Jason Stowell, Marine Corps veteran

OBITS-StowellJason_WJason Stowell, 37, of Fulton, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2012 at Oswego Hospital.

Born in Oswego, he was a life resident of the Oswego County area. He had previously worked at Inficon in East Syracuse and Sears in Clay. He was a veteran serving in the Marines from 1994 to 1998.

He loved to read and was known as the guy on the corner that is always outside reading. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed to fish and camp. A football fan, he loved the Chicago Bears.

He was predeceased by his father, Duane C. Stowell.

Surviving are his wife of 10 years, the former Erin Bristol; children, Avery and Emma Stowell; mother, Sandra Coe; siblings, Becki-Sue Stowell, Brandie Jordal, Heidi Stowell, Kristen Stowell, Joseph Jordal, Ryan Stowell; mother–in-law, Karen (Steve) Cobb; father-in-law, Tim (Linda) Bristol; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held today, Dec. 22 at 2 p.m. at Fulton First United Methodist Church, 1408 N.Y.S. Rte. 176, Fulton.

Dian Bardin, Alliance Church member

Dian M. Bardin, 55, of Fulton, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2012 at University Hospital in Syracuse after a brief illness.

She was born Aug. 26, 1957 in Watertown and had lived in Fulton many years. She was a member of Fulton Alliance Church and Phoenix American Legion Post 418 Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving are her husband, Michael Bardin; and children, John and Christopher Kerfien and Michael and April Bardin.

Services were held Friday at Fulton Alliance Church. Foster Funeral Home, Inc. has care of arrangements.
