Leo P. Pappalardo, loved singing, cooking, fishing and spending time with family

Leo P. Pappalardo, 73, of Fulton, passed away June 17, 2014, at Upstate University Medical Center surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Fulton, he was the son of the late Phil and Angelina (Curcuruto) Pappalardo.

 Leo was employed by Triline Automation Corp.

He was an active member of his parish church. Leo loved cooking, singing, fishing and spending time with his family. His kindness and spirit left a lasting impression on all who met him.

Leo leaves behind his beloved wife of 53 years, Wanda (Cooper) Pappalardo and four daughters: Beth Pappalardo-Mitchell (David) of Whitesboro, NY; Cheryl (Steven) Sovare of Webster, NY; Angela Pappalardo (Ted Sherman) of Buffalo, NY and Deanna Pappalardo of Fulton, NY.

Known to his four grandchildren as “Nano,” he will be deeply missed by Leo, Ian, Audrey and Nina. He also is survived by his sister Rosa (Richard) Kemmis, brother Salvatore (Rosalie) Pappalardo, all of Fulton, and sister JoAnn Natoli of Minetto.

 Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 20 at Sugar Funeral Home, 224 W. Second St., S., Fulton.

 Funeral services are 11 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 2912 NY Route 48, Minetto, NY. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fulton.

In lieu of flowers, family requests contributions to the Golisano Children’s Hospital, Syracuse or the Catholic Charities Food Pantry of Oswego County.

Mary Reta Smith, dedicated wife, mother

Mary Reta Smith, born March 8, 1956, the daughter of Floyd and Joyce Boynton passed away June 18, 2014 at the age of 58.

Mary was taken too quickly from her loved ones after succumbing to a prolonged battle with cancer. She was a dedicated wife and mother who found time to balance a busy work schedule with the demands of supporting and taking care of her family.

She is predeceased by her father and brother, Floyd Boynton, III.

Mary is survived by her husband John; two children, Michael (Randall Wilke) of Orlando, FL and Stephanie of Syracuse; her mother, Joyce Boynton; two sisters, Cheryl Boynton and Wendy (Michael) Whitney.

Calling hours will be held 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday (today) with a service to immediately follow at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay St., Fulton.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Upstate Cancer Center, 750 E. Adams St., Syracuse, 13210.

Benjamin O. Knight, graveside service

Graveside memorial services for Benjamin  O. Knight, 80, of Syracuse, NY will be at 1 p.m. Thursday June 19, 2014 in Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery, 723 N. Main St., Central Square, NY.

The Rev. T. E. Millbyer will officiate the service as well as military tribute by the US Army honor team, with the honor squad VFW Post 5540, Phoenix Memorial Post offering a fine tribute to Mr. Knight.

Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home, Phoenix, NY has charge of arrangements.

William Hamilton Sr., farmer, truck driver for OCO

William Hamilton, Sr., 83, of Pennellville died Tuesday June 10 at home.

He was born in Syracuse, NY and was a lifetime resident of Volney until 2010 when he moved to Pennellville.

As a child he grew up on a farm and later in life he continued to work in farming, and silo construction. Mr. Hamilton was past employed as a truck driver and he retired from OCO, Fulton where he worked as a bus driver and aide for 25 years.

He was a past member of the Fulton Moose Lodge and he enjoyed bowling at the Fulton Recreation Club and Lakeview Lanes.

Mr. Hamilton was pre-deceased by his granddaughter Tabitha.

He is survived by his six children:  Cheryl Hamilton of Pennellville, William Hamilton Jr., of Fulton, Michele Bradley of Fulton, Theresa Akarpinar of Granby, Eric Hamilton of Hannibal, Joanne Taylor of Granby; 17 grandchildren and several great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Burial will be held privately. Calling hours were Tuesday at the Sugar Funeral Home, Inc., 224 W. Second St. S. Fulton.

Margaret Beckwith, spring burial

Margaret Beckwith, 79, of Fulton will be buried at 9:15 a.m., Saturday, June 21,  in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fulton with the Rev. Moritz Fuchs officiating.

Following the burial, a celebration of Mrs. Beckwith’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 21st at the Oasis at Thunder Island, Fulton.

The Sugar Funeral Home, Inc., 224 W. Second St. S. Fulton, has care of the arrangements.

Herbert “Butch” Kelly Jr., maintenance supervisor at Interface, National Guard member, NASCAR enthusiast

Herbert “Butch” Kelly, Jr., 64, of Fulton, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 16 at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse after a brief illness.

He was a graduate of G. Ray Bodley High School, class of 1969.

Butch recently retired from Interface Solutions in Fulton as a maintenance supervisor after 42 years. He served with the Army National Guard of New York from 1970 to 1976. Continue reading

Arline Stuart, longtime Hannibal resident, member of fire department auxiliary

Arline Stuart, 90, of Hannibal, passed away Thursday June 5 at St. Luke Health Services.

She was born in Providence, R.I., a daughter to the late Thomas and L. Mildred McLinden and lived most of her life in Hannibal.

Arline was a homemaker and a member of the Hannibal Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

She was a charter communicant of Our Lady of the Rosary Church and the bookkeeper for the Hannibal Resource Center at Our Lady of the Rosary Church for over 20 years.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert F. Stuart, who died Jan. 30, 1996.

Arline is survived by her children, Robert F. Stuart, Jr. of Oswego, William T. Stuart of Austin, TX , Lee P. Stuart of North Victory and Diane M. Miano of Hannibal; five grandchildren, Laura, Matthew, George, Michael and Amanda; two great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, June 9 at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Hannibal. Burial was in Hannibal Village Cemetery.

Calling hours were June 8 at Foster Funeral Home, 837 Cayuga St., Hannibal.
