It’s getting close to the Fourth of July. Any organization or municipality that has a July 4th weekend event to publicize must get their info into The Valley News by 2 p.m. Wednesday June 25.
I’m going to put together a list of July 4th events so it’s now or never, folks.
Staff and friends of the Oswego County Department of Social Services gathered to show their support for one of Oswego County’s most vital agencies, United Way, as they participated in the Fourth Annual DSS Spring Bowling Fling.
Held recently at Lakeview Lanes in Fulton, the DSS employee bowl-a-thon raised more than $870 in support of United Way.
When Congress enacted the Older Americans Act to address the social services needs of older people, it was seen as a major vehicle for promoting the delivery of social services to seniors.
Its mission was to help older people maintain maximum independence in their homes and communities and to promote a continuum of care for the vulnerable elderly.
The Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is looking for more volunteers to staff the O’Mara Welcome Center on Route 104 in Oswego.
RSVP, a division of SUNY Oswego’s Office of Business and Community Relations, partners with the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce to staff the O’Mara Welcome Center.
For close to a century, the Oswego branch of the Erie Canal ran adjacent to the Oswego River and was an important part of the historic waterway.
Only remnants of that canal exist today.

Oswego County will apply for grant money to help build a high-speed fiber Internet network in the county.
The county Legislature passed a resolution at its June 12 meeting to move forward seeking money from the Northern Border Regional Commission, which offers assistance for this type of project. Continue reading
