Sheriff’s office hopes Nancy Jo Scamurra cold case reminder jogs memories


It was July 1, 1984 when Nancy Jo Scamurra went missing.

The then 14-year-old was last seen walking alone in the late evening hours of July 1 in the area of Scamridge Curve and Evanshire Lane in her hometown of Amherst, outside Buffalo.

Police believe she may have been walking the family’s German shepherd dog, which returned home.

On the 30th anniversary of her disappearance, the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office is bringing the cold case to the public eye again in hopes someone remembers seeing something, hearing something that could be helpful in the case. Continue reading

Editor’s Note: Early deadlines next week

It’s now summer and the Fourth of July is barreling down on us.

And with that holiday, comes some changes at The Valley News.

We will have early deadline this coming week. If you want to get a notice, letter to the editor, calendar items or anything in the paper for Saturda,y July 5, I must have it in my email or on my desk by 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 1. 

We will be putting the Saturday paper together on Wednesday, July 2, instead of Thursday so that’s why we need items in early. Continue reading
