Fulton seeks assistance with home foreclosures

A special meeting of the Oswego County Legislature’s Finance and Personnel Committee was held Wednesday to discuss a request from the City of Fulton to provide assistance with the handling of property foreclosures.

Mayor Ron Woodward said he approached the county because he learned from County Attorney Richard Mitchell that Fulton was the only municipality in the county that does their own foreclosures.

“From a financial standpoint, if someone doesn’t pay their taxes, the city doesn’t get their money,” Woodward said.

Meeting scheduled to discuss Family Court problems

A meeting has been scheduled between state court administration and interested parties in regard to allegations of problems with Oswego County Family Court Judge Kim Seager.

Oswego County Department of Social Services Commissioner Gregg Heffner confirmed that a meeting has been scheduled for June 15 and will be attended by “all interested parties.”

Those parties include Heffner, school superintendents and Legislature Chairman Fred Beardsley.

Hannibal, Phoenix libraries receive state funding

The Hannibal and Phoenix libraries are among a handful of Oswego County libraries to receive construction grant funding, according to state representatives.

Senator Patty Ritchie announced that more than $100,000 in funding will be awarded to libraries in Oswego County through public library construction grant funds.

The grant funds are from $14 million in capital funds for public library construction provided in the 2011 state budget.

OCO collecting items for area Homeless

Oswego County Opportunities Homeless Services is seeking donations of food, clothing and personal hygiene items to assist the homeless and needy within Oswego County.

OCO Homeless Services unit works with individuals in the community who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Services provided include case management, crisis intervention, and follow up care.

These services are provided in order to assist homeless individuals and families with finding safe and affordable housing, and afford them the opportunity to establish themselves in their own residence.

Cloonan confirmed as Oswego County commissioner of jurors

James Cloonan has been confirmed as the next Oswego County commissioner of jurors by the Fifth Judicial Court Administration.

Cloonan will begin his new position May 24, just four days after his 51st birthday.

“All the paperwork has been done and I’m waiting for my security card,” he said Wednesday. “I’m anxious to get back into public service.”

15th annual Celebration of Community Music to be held in Fulton

The Fulton Music Association’s 15th annual Celebration of Community Music, featuring the Fulton Community Band and a variety of local talent, will be presented Saturday, May 19 at 7 p.m. at the G. Ray Bodley High School Auditorium. Kimo Cortini, pictured at 2010 Fulton Jazz Festival, and The Cortini Brothers Jazz Group will be performing.

The Fulton Music Association’s 15th annual Celebration of Community Music featuring the Fulton Community Band and a variety of local talent will be presented Saturday, May 19 at 7 p.m. at the G. Ray Bodley High School Auditorium.

The winners of the 2012 FMA senior music awards will also be announced and each recipient will perform at the event.

The concert will feature performances by the Cortini Brothers Jazz Experience, The Classic Touch barbershop quartet, the Holy Family/St. Michaels choir under the direction of Dolores Walrath; the Fulton Community Band under the direction of Carol Fox, and the Hamer Sing-Along group.
