Last weekend, the Friends of Section 3 Wrestling held its fourth annual banquet honoring the best wrestlers in Central New York for the 2011-2012 year.
Fulton Senior Nick Woodworth (160 pounds) was selected as the recipient for the Division One Exceptional Senior Award for this past season.
Woodworth finished his final year with a record of 34-4.
Overall, he was 107-37 for his high school career with 63 pins. He was also a two-time Section 3 champion.
Senior Tyler Button (145 pounds), senior Austyn Hayes (195 pounds) and junior Nick Tighe (126 pounds) of the Phoenix Firebirds were also honored at the Friends of Section 3 Wrestling Banquet for their outstanding accomplishments this past season.
For the remainder of the 2011-2012 year, the Fulton City School District will participate in the Ronald McDonald House Charities of CNY’s Pick Up the Tab Campaign.
This campaign collects aluminum pop-tabs year-round. Pop-tabs are found on soda and soup cans, some animal food containers, and other food and beverage items.
There is a serious need for a second Ronald McDonald House to be built in Syracuse. Over 200 organizations, including many school districts, are on the bandwagon collecting pop-tabs to help keep families in need together.
Stephen Darby, 45, of Fulton, died March 3, 2012 at home after a long illness.
He was born in Syracuse. He previously lived in Cato and Oswego before moving to Fulton 12 years ago. He graduated from Morrisville College with an associate degree in Wood-Product Technology. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
It was a successful season for the Phoenix boys varsity indoor track and field team.
In league competition, Phoenix earned a second-place finish behind Jamesville-Dewitt.
This season, Firebird runners set six shool records while several runners earned All-League Awards and took part in both league championship and sectional meets.
Jeff Wells, Will Miller, Jason Czyz, Bryce Ferris, Brandon Halstead and Mike Leach were the runners who set school records this season.
