I’m getting discouraged by all the time I spend out-and-about, doing errands.

I make my lists diligently, expecting to do my errand run and get back in a reasonable amount of time. Often, I do. More often, there’s a glitch at some point, either in my time estimation or the “successful hunt” factor.

A store didn’t open when I thought it did, or when I get in, I can’t find the item I wanted.  I return home, irritable in spite of what I did gather, knowing that sooner or later I have to go back out again. I’m tired and I want to stay home.

Learning about government – Oswego County Legislator Dan Farfaglia hosted Fulton Junior High School seventh grade student Cole Rothrock for Thursday’s Government Day. Each year, students learn about county government by spending the day with legislators.

Oswego County Government Day was deemed a huge success by organizers.
Legislators hosted middle school students from around the county Thursday for a day of learning.

Oswego County Cornell Cooperative Extension Director Paul Forestiere told legislators that the event is important for the students.

Educating the youth with information that they need will allow them the students to become responsible students, he said.

Fulton Art Association to hold annual art show

The Fulton Art Association’s 39th annual art show and competition will be held Saturday, May 19 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday, May 20 from noon to 4:30 p.m. in the Community Room at the Fulton Municipal Building at 141 S. First St., Fulton.

A reception will be held Saturday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.

The association’s artists range in age from junior high school to senior citizens and reside in Fulton, Baldwinsville, Central Square, Cicero, Hannibal, Liverpool, Mexico, Oswego, and Phoenix.

John Flugel, Fulton resident

John Flugel, 52, of Fulton, died Saturday, May 5, 2012 from injuries sustained from an automobile accident.

He was born in Fairport to the late Robert and Beverly (McLeod) Flugel. Mr. Flugel has been a resident of Fulton for 19 years.  He worked in a partnership with Beefer’s Handyman Services, Fulton.

Mr. Flugel is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Flugel of Fulton; step-mom, Jean Flugel of Florida; siblings, Jan Hopkins of Fairport and Thomas Flugel of Tennessee; grandchildren, Jordan and Jeremy; and two nieces, Kaylee and Stephanie Hopkins.

Funeral services and burial will be private. Sugar Funeral Home, Fulton has care of the arrangements.

Jimmy D and the Jury to play at ‘Bundle of Bucks’ party

Jimmy D and the Jury will perform during the “Bundle of Bucks” raffle party May 19 at the Oswego Elks Lodge.

More than 400 people are expected to attend the annual event. The “Bundle of Bucks” raffles will award cash totaling $25,000 dollars with a top prize of $10,000 to a winner.

Jimmy D and the Jury have been performing together for the past 15 years. Lead singer and drummer Ginger Bieganoski is known for her covers of Janis Joplin.
Angelo Vescio is on lead vocals and guitar and Jimmy Dillabough holds down the “groove.”

Motorcycle accidents lead to proposed legislation

New York State Senator Patty Ritchie introduced a bill that would improve motorcycle safety by including awareness training in the DMV’s mandatory, pre-licensing courses.

The proposed legislation was prompted by several motorcycle-related accidents in the region, including four fatal motorcycle accidents already in Oswego this year, which more than any full year since 2008.

According to the most recent data from the New York State DMV, there were 152 fatalities from 5,150 motorcycle accidents in 2009.

Local singers to perform at Fulton’s Memorial Day Salute

Two local musicians will be featured this year at the 31st  annual Fulton Memorial Day Salute.

Friday night, May 25 at 6 p.m, Rick Bush, a Fulton native, will bring his musical talents to the stage.

Bush has been performing for over 25 years with such groups as The Misfits, The Watson Boys, Dam Dog and The Moss Back Mule Band.
