Richard A. Spencer, loved life, spread cheer, worked at Oswego Industries


Richard A. Spencer, 73, of 299 E. River Road, Oswego, and formerly of Canastota, passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2014, at St. Luke Health Services, Oswego, where he has resided for the past 17 years.

He was born on March 5, 1941, in Penn Yan, the son of George and Retha Stucker Spencer.

Richard spent his early years in Canastota, and has lived in Oswego most of his adult life.

He worked at Oswego Industries for many years, and later volunteered at St. Luke Health Services.

Richard enjoyed life to the fullest. He was proud of his accomplishments and enjoyed spreading cheer wherever he could. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a large smile. He often made others feel good by complimenting them.

He liked to shop, use an iPad, listen to music, watch television, listen to his police scanner, and enjoy a good meal. All of these, he enjoyed doing with others (especially with “his girls”).

He had no known survivors. His caregivers at St. Luke Health Services remember him fondly.

Funeral services are at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 31, 2014, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James St., Canastota, with the Rev. Donna Chapman of the Whitelaw Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial was with his parents in Lenox Rural Cemetery, Canastota.

Calling hours are from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service, at the funeral home.
