In an effort to help local businesses and attractions reach potential visitors in the Finger Lakes region, the Oswego County Department of Community Development, Tourism and Planning has offered to underwrite a portion of the cost of listings in the Finger Lakes “Go and Do” app.
The county tourism office is partnering with Cayuga Media, publishers of the Auburn Citizen, Skaneateles Journal and www.auburnpub.com, to offer a discounted listing on the app for one year.
The county will subsidize 10 percent of the cost for the first 100 Oswego County-based businesses and attractions who sign onto the program.
“In order to help populate the Oswego County portion of the site and drive more customers to our small businesses in the county, we’re offering a promotion to help underwrite the cost of a listing on the app to the first 100 businesses that decide to partner with Cayuga Media,” said Dave Turner, director of the Community Development, Tourism and Planning Department.
“Businesses will receive a 1-year listing on the ‘Finger Lakes Go and Do’ app for $269.10, down $129.90 from the published rate of $399.”
Cayuga Media staff will create and maintain the listings and provide analytics and performance logs for each business that requests it.
“Research shows that 78 percent of searches are done on mobile phones,” said Jeffrey Weigand, advertising director.
“This free, location-based app is designed to help visitors and residents to the Finger Lakes area of Central New York find the events, activities, restaurants and lodging that fit into their travel plans,” Weigand said.
“The app works with iPhones and Android devices and is the only tourism app supported by a major media outlet and serving the entire Finger Lakes Region,” he said.
Businesses will receive listings in up to three categories, links to map and phone buttons, and links to social media pages such as Facebook, Twitter and email shares.
Customers may also provide 1-minute video and audio clips.
“The app is supported by an extensive advertising campaign that includes print ads, travel guides, banner ads, rack cards and other media,” said Weigand.
“We see this as a unique opportunity to help Oswego County’s tourism industry extend its market reach to the nearby Finger Lakes region,” Weigand said. “We appreciate the assistance of the county tourism office in making this opportunity available to local businesses.”
Cayuga Media sales representatives will reach out to businesses and attractions across Oswego County.
