Certified Nurse Midwife Michelle P. LeFort has joined the staff of Oswego Hospital’s maternity center and the local practice, Oswego County OB-GYN.
LeFort has a master’s degree in nursing from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., where she majored in nurse-midwifery. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Ind.
“I am very much enjoying getting to know the community, my patients who are so welcoming and the physician group, which has been so wonderful to work with,” LeFort said.
“I hope to empower women to seek the best healthcare possible for themselves and their families,” she said.
While a student, LeFort earned numerous honors, such as the Sister M. Rosaleen Dunleavy Allied Medical Award for outstanding achievement.
She was also recognized for being a member of the Kappa Gamma Pi National Catholic College Graduate Honor Society and the Beta Beta Beta Biology Honors Society. In addition, she was the recipient of a President’s Scholarship while attending Saint Mary’s College.
Oswego Hospital’s maternity center offers large, attractive, private labor and delivery rooms with the latest technology. Each labor and delivery room also has its own bathroom with a large soaking tub.
There are also 12 postpartum rooms, which have their own bathrooms, as well as a cheery, homelike atmosphere.
The unit is staffed 24 hours a day with either an obstetrician or certified nurse midwife with physician collaboration and with neonatal nurse practitioners for immediate newborn care.
