Stage veteran brings role of Mama Rose to Oswego Players


The Oswego Players proudly present Cathleen O’Brien Brown in the coveted role of Mama Rose in their summer production of the great American musical “Gypsy.”

Brown will be accompanied by a six-piece band and an all-star local cast from all over Upstate NY for this Sondheim spectacular.

Brown has appeared on stages all over the world including Singapore, Malaysia, Korea, and Honduras in such roles as Christine in Yeston/Kopit’s PHANTOM opposite the Metropolitan Opera’s Chester Ludgin and Aldonza in MAN OF LA MANCHA opposite Broadway’s Ian Sullivan.

She has performed on several National/International Tours including CAMELOT, TITANIC, INTO THE WOODS, THE SOUND OF MUSIC, and 42ND STREET.

An accomplished opera singer, she has appeared with New Jersey State Opera, Syracuse Opera, Hartt Opera Theater (CT) as Mimi in LA BOHÈME, Fiordiligi in COSI FAN TUTTE, Marguerite in FAUST, Juliette in Gounod’s ROMEO ET JULIETTE, among others.

Brown won the Syracuse Area Live Theater Awards for best actress in a play and People’s Choice Actress of the Season when she starred as Maria Callas in the award winning production of Terrence McNally’s MASTER CLASS.

She has appeared locally with Syracuse Opera, Opening Night Productions, Salt City Center for the Performing Arts, The Talent Company, Appleseed Productions and Open Hand Theater.

Most recently, Brown starred as Joanne in COMPANY for Rarely Done Productions at the Redhouse District Festival and as The Lady of the Lake in CNY Playhouse’s production of SPAMALOT.

 In the director’s chair for “Gypsy” is players veteran Inez M. Parker, with Abel Searor as music director and Stephfond Brunson as assistant director and choreographer.

The production, being sponsored by CNYArts, opened Friday, the Fourth of July.

Additional performances are at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 5, Friday July 11 and Saturday July 12.

There also is a matinee at 2 p.m. Sunday July 13.
