The Oswego City Band will be “Celebrating America” on Wednesday, July 2, performing iconic works by famous American composers and performers, said Trevor Jorgensen, concert band conductor.
Selections include patriotic works such as Sousa’s Stars and Stripes Forever, Carmen Dragon’s version of Ward’s America, The Beautiful, and Steffe’s Battle Hymn of the Republic.
Stage works and famous American performers will also be highlighted in such pieces as Sinatra in Concert, Gershwin!, Bernstein and Sondheim’s West Side Story and Joplin’s The Entertainer.
Famous works representing America’s world-renowned composers include Samuel Barber’s Commando March, Sousa’s Easter Monday on the White House Lawn, Charles Ive’s Variations on America and contemporary wind band composer Frank Ticheli’s American Elegy.
All Oswego City Band concerts are at Breitbeck Park and begin at 7:30 pm, except the August dates, which will begin at 7 p.m.
Concert goers are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket.
Additional upcoming concert dates include July 16, August 6 and 13.
The concerts are sponsored by the City of Oswego, with additional funding provided by the Music Performance Trust Fund and Oswego County Musicians Union, Local 267-441.
