Farm Bureau to provide educational placemats at local restaurants

The Oswego County Farm Bureau is partnering with the New York Farm Bureau Foundation for Agricultural Education on a new pilot program to help people better understand where their food comes from.

The Oswego County Farm Bureau’s Promotion and Education Committee will deliver informational placemats to interested local restaurants to use on their tables. The colorful double-sided sheets feature a number of games, trivia, and positive messages about farming.

While the placemats will be highly entertaining for children at the dinner table, they also may serve as a fun addition to an organization’s banquet or picnic. Overall, up to 1,700 of these will be distributed throughout Oswego County over the coming month.

Local eateries and other businesses or organizations that are interested in the project are encouraged to contact the Oswego County Farm Bureau at 963-7311 or by email at

“This program is a great way to connect with consumers and build appreciation on how their food is grown,” said Oswego County Farm Bureau President Nancy Weber.

“The Oswego County Farm Bureau is pleased to offer this fun format to the businesses of our community, and we look forward to showcasing how New York farmers fill local dinner plates each and every meal,” she said.
