Waste pickup scheduled announced for Oswego

The schedule for weekly pick up of  bagged and contained yard waste and debris conducted by the Department of Public Works is as follows:

  • MONDAY: South of Utica Street, west side of city
  • TUESDAY: Between Bridge Street and Utica Street and the college area, West side of city
  • WEDNESDAY: North of Bridge Street, west side of city
  • THURSDAY:South of Utica Street, east side of city
  • FRIDAY: North of Utica Street, east side of city

The weekly pick-up schedule is for bagged and contained yard waste and debris ONLY and must be placed out for pick-up by 7 a.m. on the scheduled day.

Yard waste consists of leaves, grass clippings, yard rakings, flower garden weeding, et cetera.

The department strongly recommends the use of biodegradable paper bags for these items. It also recommends the use of reusable containers such as trash cans, bins or pails. Cardboard boxes and plastic bags will also be picked up on the regular schedule.

Uncontained yard waste and debris are collected only when manpower and equipment are available and are not on any set schedule.

Brush pick-up is done on a citywide basis starting at the southwest end of the city and working to the northeast end, then starting over again.

It is very important that brush (tree limbs) be kept separate from yard waste and debris in order to maximize our chipping operation.

The city will only pick up brush and limbs  that are four inches (4”) or less in diameter that can be readily chipped in our chipper. All brush and limbs must be neatly stacked between the sidewalk and curb with the butt ends facing in the same direction.

Stumps and roots will be picked up at the discretion of the city.

If you have any questions concerning this matter, contact the Department of Public Works at 342-4212 during the business hours of 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
