Oswego Health offering workshops on healthy living starting in July

Oswego Health is once again offering free healthy living workshops for community members who want to better manage their chronic conditions.

The free, six-week program developed by Stanford University will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon Tuesdays beginning July 15 in the conference room of the Fulton Medical Center. 

This program is designed to help those with arthritis, heart disease, osteoporosis or diabetes improve their health status through its living healthy workshops. The workshops will cover nutrition and exercise, as well as how to get support, deal with pain and fatigue and talk with your physician and family members about your condition. 

Participants will learn goal setting techniques and establish a step-by-step plan to improve their health.

Teaching the class will be individuals who have undergone specialized training that is required in order to instruct the program. “During the previous two classes we have offered, we have seen first-hand, just how effective the program is in helping community members learn how to better manage their chronic conditions,” said Brenda LaMay, director of community health services. “The curriculum clearly offers proven techniques that assist participants improve their health status.”

Those taking part in the program will be provided a free workbook and healthy snacks at each class session.
