The first weekly Mugs and Motors antique, classic and muscle car show was held in Oswego June 15.
Local business woman Anne Backer, owner of “Taste the World” in Canal Commons, plans to run the shows every Sunday during the summer from 1 to 4 p.m. on West First Street.
Mugs and Motors’ first Sunday produced 44 cars/trucks and one classic motorcycle. Attendees came from the Syracuse/Liverpool area as well as the Oswego area.
Backer said she is fielding calls from all over New York state and other states such as Maryland and Virginia.
“It is this type of enthusiasm that will help this event grow in popularity,” she said.
The Sunday shows feature live music and street vendors. Many of the local retail stores are open with sidewalk displays. The weekly event is free to the public and car and cycle owners.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair to sit and enjoy the music.
“Today I was blessed in many ways. First, I had the opportunity to display my Dad’s car at the first Mugs and Motors social,” Backer said. “Second, it was confirmed to me that I am surrounded by great people who volunteer their time willingly for the benefit of others. And third, the community showed great support by coming out either with their vehicle or just as spectators. I couldn’t have asked for a more successful kick off of the Mugs and Motors social.”
As the event grows, prizes will be added.
Mugs and Motors is from 1 to 4 p.m. every Sunday on West First, starting at West Bridge and going south.
