The Hannibal girls’ varsity track and field team recently came in second in the Class B, Section 3 Championships with a score of 98 points and the Lady Warriors had three Sectional Championship athletes on the team.
As a result of the Section 3 Championships, Devin Sorell, Kiersten Abbott, Janejira Cooper, Tayler Dence and Cassie Long (4×100 meter relay), Devin Sorell (100 meter dash), Tayler Dence (200 meter dash), Reilly Harris (800 meter dash and 1500 meter dash) and Devin Sorell (Long Jump) earned trips to the State Qualifying Meet.
At the Sectional Championships, senior Devin Sorell came in first in the 100 meter dash. Two eighth-graders also won championships by placing first in their races — Reilly Harris in the 1500 meter dash and MacKenzie Mattison in the steeplechase.
Also at the Class B, Section 3 Championship Meet, Devin Sorell came in sixth in the 200 meter dash. Gabby Griffin, Sydney Alton, Kiersten Abbott and Janejira Cooper placed fifth in the 4×400 meter relay.
Griffin also came in fifth in the triple jump and shot put while Micheala Sheldon came in fourth in the 300 meter dash.
In the 4×800 meter relay, Kristen D’Angelo, MacKenzie Mattison, Micheala Sheldon and Reilly Harris came in third. Tayler Dence placed third in both the 200 meter dash and 100 meter hurdles events.
Devin Sorell came away with a third place in the long jump. Devin Sorell, Kiersten Abbott, Janejira Cooper and Tayler Dence earned a second place in the 4×100 meter relay.
Reilly Harris placed second in both the 800 meter dash and the 3000 meter dash. Cassie Long earned second place finishes in the pentathlon, 110 meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump and 800 meter dash events.
