Hundreds showed up on a clear evening filled with blue sky to attend the first Oswego County Balloon Fest at the county Fairgrounds in Sandy Creek.
In addition to the food, vendors, animals and bounce houses for the kids, four colorful balloons took to the sky at about 7:20 p.m., floating over the fairgrounds and then out over the villages of Sandy Creek and Lacona.
Children were seen running down Harwood Drive in Sandy Creek as they watched the balloons drift through the air. Area residents came out of their houses to watch and people pulled over to take photos with their cell phones.
Even those driving on Interstate 81 got quite a show as the balloons glided through the air across the highway.
The Balloon Fest continues Saturday and Sunday. Come watch the balloons launch from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday nights, and 5:45 to 7 a.m. Saturday and Sunday mornings.
Balloon glows will begin at 8:30 Saturday night.
Balloon Fest tickets are $10. Children 10 and under get in for free.
Balloon rides are available by calling Peter Griswold at 263-0385.
