The Hannibal varsity softball team lost its final three games of the season, tallying a 1-15 overall record.
The Lady Warriors lost both games to Jordan-Elbridge in a May 19 Doubleheader — 2-0 in Game 1 and 9-0 in Game 2. On May 20, unbeaten Solvay crushed Hannibal 40-0 in the Lady Warriors season finale.
In the Solvay game, Solvay wasted little time putting the game out of reach. By the end of the second inning, Solvay had a 20-0 lead over the Lady Warriors.
They added seven more runs during the third and fourth innings to take a 27-0 lead. After a scoreless fifth inning, Solvay capped off its impressive effort, scoring 13 runs in the sixth inning en route to a 40-0 win over Hannibal.
Solvay held the Lady Warriors without a hit. Kate Woodworth was the only Hannibal player to get on base. Solvay was equally as intimidating offensively. Lady Warrior Pitcher Hailey Dunsmoor threw two strikeouts while allowing 40 runs off 32 hits with 13 walks in 6 innings of work.
Hannibal’s one win this season came against Skaneateles on May 9 when the Lady Warriors beat the Lakers 8-5.
Hannibal built an early lead of 1-0 in the first. After three scoreless innings, Hannibal expanded its lead, scoring four unanswered runs in the fifth to take a 5-0 lead.
Skaneateles quickly answered back. They outscored Hannibal by a run in the sixth inning to bring the lead down to 8-4. Even though Skaneateles made things interesting down the stretch, the Lady Warriors had their first win in their sights.
Skaneateles scored in the seventh inning to cut the lead down to three runs, but this was as close as they would get. Hannibal withstood Skaneateles’ late game rally to hold on for an 8-5 win.
Leading the way for the Lady Warriors was Kate Woodworth with three hits, followed by Megan Norris with two hits and an RBI including a homerun. Malana Scott had two hits and an RBI. MacKenzie Stevens added a hit and two RBIs.
Kurstin Hammond chipped in a hit and an RBI, while Samantha Bowers, Catrina Deveney and Kate Thompson each had a hit for Hannibal.
Hailey Dunsmoor pitched a complete game for the Lady Warriors. Dunsmoor threw 12 strikeouts while allowing five runs off eight hits.
Skaneateles paid back Hannibal on May 12. Skaneateles jumped out to an early 5-2 lead in the first. Hannibal quickly responded, outscoring the Lakers 4-1 in the second to tie the game at 6.
Skaneateles took over from there. They scored three unanswered runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 9-6 lead. After Hannibal cut the lead down to two runs at 9-7 in the fifth, Skaneateles put the game out of reach, scoring 10 unanswered runs in the sixth and seventh to cap off a 19-7 win.
The Lady Warriors were led by Kurstin Hammond, Megan Norris and Kate Woodworth, each with two hits and an RBI. Samantha Bowers had two hits, while Malana Scott and MacKenzie Stevens each added a hit and an RBI.
