Oswego County Opportunities recently honored Tom Mills with the agency’s Howard Wilcox Volunteer of the Year Award.
Presented annually, the award is given to a volunteer who goes above and beyond in offering their time and talents to an OCO program.
Mills, chairperson for OCO’s Head Start Parents Group, was recognized for his mission of sharing his Head Start and OCO experiences with the community and for the many hours he has volunteered each week in support of the Head Start program.
Deputy Executive Director of OCO, Sarah Irland, praised Mills for his volunteerism and his devotion to Head Start.
“Tom played an integral part in the establishment of the first Head Start Male Involvement Group. Over the past two years, Tom has recruited members for the group and planned activities and projects for parents and children,” Irland said.
“From enlightening presentations to sprucing up the playground at Discovery Day Care center and assisting in the production of a parent testimonial video about the benefits of the Head Start program, Tom’s efforts have had a dramatic effect on Head Start and the families that are a part of it,” she said.
OCO provides more than 50 vital services throughout 80 separate locations.
