CNY Arts Center exhibition in Oswego opens today

Artists from CNY Arts Center are making their debut in downtown Oswego with an art show entitled Empowered Through the Arts: The finest of CNY Arts Center at the Oswego State Downtown Gallery at 186 W. First St.

The art exhibit featuring several local artists will open May 31 (today) with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. and run through July 12.

“We are excited and so proud to have this opportunity for our wonderful artists,” said Nancy Fox, director. “There is a wealth of talent all over Oswego County and we are very grateful to Michael Flanagan and SUNY Oswego for providing this bridge in the art community.”

Some of the artists included in the exhibit are Kendra Matott, the studio arts coordinator for CNY Arts Center.

Matott arranges art shows and classes for the center in a variety of art types for all ages. Her art work is considered mixed media that begins as a photograph and evolves through special techniques Matott applies.

Bonnie McClellan, also included in the show, is CNY Arts Center’s Arts in the HeART Gallery director in downtown Fulton.

Her landscapes have generated popular oil painting classes for adults and kids alike as she takes students from blank canvas to complete landscape.

People are discovering a love for painting with McClellan’s encouragement. Her students have begun participating in area shows and some now display their own art work in the gallery.

Many more artists are featured in the exhibit, which will move to the Hospice of Central New York in Liverpool in July and remain through August.

Oswego State Downtown gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesdays; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays; and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. The gallery is located at 186 W. First St.
