At a recent Sunrise Rotary meeting, Rotarian David Nethercott, left, introduced David DeFrancis, the director of outreach for AURORA of CNY, Inc, which covers Oswego, Onondaga and Cayuga counties and serves those who suffer hearing and vision loss. Many customers suffer from macular degeneration. It is expected future generations will suffer more hearing loss from their use of earbuds/headphones. The typical customer is 55+ with a related issue up to the point of being declared legally blind. DeFrancis demonstrated many products designed to increase and maintain the independence of his customers. These included: magnifiers, talking watches, books on tape, large print check registers and emergency contact books as wells as products to help those with a hearing loss. As these items are not covered by Medicaid or Medicare, DeFrancis showed some low cost options. Check out Hear-more.com and Maxi-aids.com for more information. Their Website is: www.auroraofcny.org. The Fulton Sunrise Rotary meets at 7 a.m. each Friday at Fulton’s Riverside Inn.
