Richard Emmons, veteran, firefighter

5-29_OBITemmonsRichard Emmons, 84, of Volney, NY passed away Sunday evening May 25 at University Hospital after a short illness.

He was born in Fulton, NY to the late Nathan and Gladys (Coe) Emmons.

Mr. Emmons has been a resident of Fulton for most of his life. He was a United States veteran having served in the Army Air Force from 1947 to 1949.  He was past employed with the Fulton Fire Department for 11 years and later retired from the United States Postal Service, Taft Road,  North Syracuse location after 26 years of service.

He was an avid Bingo player.

Mr. Emmons was pre-deceased by his grandson Jeffrey Brown in 2004.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years Geraldine Emmons of Volney, NY; five children Dianna (Joseph) Brown, and Carol (Lewis) Palmer both of Volney, NY, Frank (Jeanette) Emmons of CA, Anita Wavercak of Fenner, NY, and Cynthia (Mike) Neverette of Baldwinsville, NY; 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m.  Friday in the Sugar Funeral Home, Inc. with Mr. Emmons’ granddaughter Tammy Palmer officiating. Burial will be held privately.

Calling hours will be conducted from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday (today) in the Sugar Funeral Home, Inc., 224 W. Second St. S., Fulton.
