Local students achieve honors at colleges

Ithaca College — Adam Kinney, a graduate student occupational therapy major in the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance at Ithaca College, awarded the Graduate Professional Excellence Award. The Graduate Professional Excellence Award is given to the graduate student who will be an excellent representative of the program in the professional community of occupational therapy, through clinical work, research, interdisciplinary projects, experiential learning, or work in the profession or local community.

Heidelberg University – Meghan Yost, Mexico, senior history and political science major, spring semester dean’s list.

Nazareth College – Kenneth Marshall of Fulton and Annie Viau of Central Square, graduated May 11 with master’s or doctoral degrees.

Clarkson University— Amanda L. Distasio of Lacona, a senior majoring in civil engineering, received the Perkins Family Memorial Award for work-study students; Paige M. McCanney of West Monroe, a senior majoring in biology and psychology, received the Biology Department Undergraduate Teaching Award, given to the biology major who has demonstrated excellence in teaching or tutoring biology. The recipient will receive a monetary award and have his/her name engraved upon a plaque that is on display in the Department of Biology and the Psychology Research Award; Kasey P. McConnell of Pulaski, a senior majoring in communication, received the Communication & Media Senior Award for the outstanding senior in the department; Mitchell P. Spink of Pulaski, a junior majoring in civil engineering, received the Norbert L. Ackermann EndowedFund Award. Two awards are given — one in the sophomore class and one in the junior class — of the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering with the greatest promise for academic success.

Champlain College — Ian Giovannetti of Fulton, graduated May 3 with a bachelor’s degree in Management of Creative Media.

SUNY Oneonta — Steven DeLisle, a sophomore from Fulton, was a member of the 2014 SUNY Oneonta men’s lacrosse team. The team finished 5-11 overall this season.

Texas A&M University — Jessica Parker from Central Square, on May 10 graduated from the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University.

SUNYIT – The following graduated May 10 from the SUNY Institute of Technology in Marcy: Roberta Boteler of Fulton; Kade Harrington of Parish; Jacob O’Kay of Pulaski; Kaitlyn Harrington of West Monroe; and Valerie Salazar of West Monroe.

Phi Kappa Phi – The following were inducted into the honor society Phi Kappa Phi: Alana Kimmerly of Fulton, initiated at SUNY Oswego; Benjamin Nordmark of Fulton, initiated at SUNY Oswego; Jessica Walsh of Fulton, initiated at SUNY Cortland; Kristan Johnson of Minetto, initiated at SUNY Oswego; Christopher Kinney of Parish, initiated at SUNY Cortland; Zachary Taillie of Phoenix, initiated at SUNY Cortland; Emily Mullen of Sterling, initiated at SUNY Cortland.

SUNY Potsdam — Morgan Cooper of Fulton, successfully completed an internship at the SUNY Potsdam Photography Darkroom.

SUNY Oswego – The followed earned awards at the college’s Honors Convocation: Jason J. Wolinski of County Route 2 in Richland, studying chemistry, received the Anthony L. VanGeet Scholarship and plans to attend graduate school to become a physician’s assistant; Jenna D. Neupert of Emery Street in Fulton, studying sociology, received the W. Seward Salisbury Award for the Outstanding Senior in Sociology and plans to obtain employment in her field.

Herkimer County Community College – The following graduated from HCCC May 16: Zachary R. Bango of Westdale, majoring in criminal justice, associate of science; Lisa M. Borasky of West Monroe, majoring in human services, associate of applied science; Catlain M. Graham of Fulton, majoring in liberal arts and sciences, social science, associate of arts; Tricia Joy Thorp of Williamstown, majoring in liberal arts and sciences, general studies, associate of arts; Brittany Dawn West of Phoenix, majoring in criminal justice forensic investigations, associate of applied science; Jessica Lynn Williamson of Mexico, majoring in criminal justice, associate of science.

Binghamton University – Dean’s list students for fall semester of 2013-14 school year: Michael Cowan of Pulaski; Katie Jones of Fulton; Kyle Loftus of Fulton; Sarah Park of Hannibal; Alexander Rava of Hastings; Ryan King.

Southern New Hampshire University — Linzy Kiefer of Phoenix, bachelor’s in business studies in human resource management, dean’s list spring semester.
