Fulton softball continues to win

The Fulton varsity softball team won its last four games to improve to a 10-5 overall record.

Fulton cruised past Homer 18-6 May 9. The Lady Raiders topped county foe Hannibal 13-0 in Game 1 of a May 10 Tournament. In Game 2 of the tournament, Fulton knocked off Syracuse West 7-1. The Lady Raiders held off county rival Mexico 3-1 May 12.

 Fulton jumped out to an early lead against Homer at 2-1 in the first inning. Then Homer stormed ahead, scoring  three unanswered runs during the second inning to take a 4-2 lead.

That’s where everything changed for the lady Trojans. Fulton took control of the game in the third, scoring 10 unanswered runs to take a 12-4 lead.

Homer cut into the lead in the fourth, outscoring the Lady Raiders by a run to bring its lead down to 13-6. But that was as close as Homer would get as Fulton scored five unanswered runs in the fifth and sixth innings to cap off an 18-6 win.

Leading the way for the Lady Raiders was Cheyenne Laun with five hits and three RBIs, including a home run. Following Laun was Keisha Pierce with four hits and four RBIs including two home runs,  Hannah Jones with two hits and three RBIs, Mikayla Guernsey with two hits and an RBI and Caitlyn Chrisman, Anna Guernsey, Kassidy Kearns, Maureen McCann and Courtney Parker combining for five hits and five RBIs.

Mikayla Guernsey earned the win on the mound, throwing three strikeouts while allowing six runs off nine hits in four innings of work. In relief of Guernsey, Cheyenne Laun threw six strikeouts while allowing one hit in three innings pitched.

Against Hannibal, the Lady Raiders got off to an impressive start building an 8-0 lead in the first. Fulton quickly put the game out of reach, scoring five more runs in the second inning en route to a 13-0 win.

Hannibal was led by MacKenzie Stevens with two hits. It was a tough day on the mound for Lady Warrior pitcher Dallas Voss, who threw two strikeouts while allowing 13 runs off four hits with 11 walks in five innings of work.

Leading the way for Fulton was Cheyenne Laun with two hits and two RBIs, followed by Keisha Pierce with a hit and three RBIs, Courtney Parker with a hit and an RBI, Mikayla Guernsey with two RBIs and Caitlyn Chrisman, Katelyn Ely and Jessica Marvin combining for three RBIs.

On the mound, Fulton’s Mikayla  Guernsey threw four strikeouts while allowing two hits in two innings pitched. In relief, Cheyenne Laun threw four strikeouts in two innings of work.

In Game 2 of the May 10 tournament, the Lady Raiders were leading 1-0 after the first inning over Syracuse West. After two scoreless innings, the Lady Raiders expanded their lead, scoring three unanswered runs in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead.

Both teams scored a run during the fifth and then the Lady Raiders scored a run in both the sixth and seventh innings to come away with a 7-1 win.

Fulton was led by Courtney Parker with two hits and an RBI, followed by Maureen McCann with two hits, Hannah Jones and Cheyenne Laun with a hit and RBI each and Kassidy Kearns with a hit.

Cheyenne Laun pitched a complete game, throwing seven strikeouts and allowing one run off of six hits.

Fulton took a 1-0 lead against Mexico in the first. After four scoreless innings, Fulton added to its lead by scoring three unanswered runs during the sixth inning to escape with a 3-1 win over Mexico.

Leading the way for Mexico were Kendra Harter, Amylynn Holland, Kennedy Lamb, Bailey Wills and Brooke Wills iwth a hit each. Kalen Hyde had an RBI.

On the mound, Mexico was led by Kennedy Lamb with three strikeouts while allowing three runs off five hits in six innings pitched.

Leading Fulton was Keisha Pierce with a hit and two RBIs, followed by Mikayla Guernsey with a hit and an RBI and Caitlyn Chrisman, Casey Jones and Kassidy Kearns with a hit each.

Cheyenne Laun earned the win on the mound, throwing six strikeouts while allowing one run off five hits in seven innings of work.
