Hannibal girls cruise past Phoenix at track meet

The Hannibal girls’ track and field team recently cruised past Phoenix for a 96-44 win.

Despite the lopsided score, both teams were represented in the top five of nearly every event.

Hannibal edged Phoenix in the 4×800 meter relay with a time 11:01 to the Firebirds time of 11:26. 

Lady Firebird Haylie Virignia finished first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.0. Hannibal’s Tayler Dence was second at 17.2 and Destiny Teel earned Phoenix was third at 18.9.

In the 100-meter dash, Lady Warrior Devin Sorell came in first place with a time of 13.3. Lady Firebird Brandi Ashley came in second place with a time of 14.0. Sorell’s teammate, Kiersten Abbott earned a third place finish with a time of 14.5.

Hannibal’s Reilly Harris came in first place of the 1500 meter dash with a time of 5:30. Fellow Lady Warrior Rebekah Mils earned a second place finish with a time of 6:21. Morgan Bajish represented Phoenix in third with a time of 6:40.

Hannibal won the 4×100 meter relay with a time of 55.6 to the Lady Firebird’s time of 62.2.

Lady Warrior Reilly Harris came in first  in the 400 meter dash with a time of 70.0. Following Harris were teammates Gabby Griffin with a time of 73.2 and Sydney Alton with a time of 75.2.

In the 400-meter hurdles, Haylie Virginia earned Phoenix first-place points with a time of 74.7. McKenzie Mattison earned Hannibal second place points with a time of 79.7. Mattison’s teammate Cassie Long finished in third place with a time of 1:24.4.

Lady Warrior Kristen D’Angelo came in first place of the 800 meter dash with a time of 2:50. Meghan Lenz was second for the Firebirds with a time of 2:56. Vanessa Waldron of Hannibal was third with a time of 3:08.

Lady Warrior Tayler Dence came in first in the 200 meter dash with a time of 29.0. Dence’s teammate, Devin Sorell came in second with a time of 30.4. Brandi Ashley earned third for Phoenix with a time of 32.0.

In the 3000 meter dash, Hannibal’s Micheala Sheldon came in first in 13:13. Sheldon’s teammate, Kristen D’Angelo earned second with a 13:53. Lady Firebird Chloe Goodman came in third with a time of 14:52.

The Lady Warriors topped Phoenix in the 4×400 meter relay with a time 5:00 to the Lady Firebirds time of 5:32.

The Lady Warriors came away with the top three finishes in the long jump. Devin Sorell finished first place with a jump of 14 feet, 4 inches, followed by Kiersten Abbott in second with a distance of 12 feet and Kristen D’Angelo in third with a jump of 12 feet, 6 inches.

Lady Warrior Gabby Griffin came in first in the triple jump with a distance of 30 feet. Lady Firebird Meghan Lenz earned second with a distance of 27 feet, 6 inches and Hannibal’s Vanessa Waldron came in third with a distance of 25 feet, 7 inches.

Gabby Griffin also got it done in the shot put, coming in first with a distance of 27 feet, 2 inches. Maria Musuemci was  second for Phoenix with a distance of 23 feet, 7 inches and Hannibal’s Callie Cacchione was third with a distance of 23 feet, 6 inches.

Lady Firebird Maria Musumeci was first place in the discus with a distance of 63 feet, 4 inches. Hannibal’s Amanda Miano was second with a throw of 49 feet, 3 inches and Musumeci’s teammate, Stephanie Seevers, was third with a distance of 48 feet, 5 inches.

Haylie Virginia earned Phoenix a first in the high jump with a distance of 4 feet, 4 inches, followed by Hannibal’s Tayler Dence who tied for second place with Lady Firebird Carolanne Switzer with a distance of 4 feet.

Destiny Teel of Phoenix was first points in the pole vault with height of 7 feet, 6 inches. Lady Warrior Abby Weldin was second with a height of 6 feet.
